Police pursuit ends in crash
Driver wanted for shooting in Philadelphia
POTTSTOWN >> A police chase through borough streets Tuesday evening ended when a Philadelphia man wanted in connection with a shooting crashed his Jaguar into a utility pole and had to be flown by helicopter to a trauma center.
Before Malik Davis, 25, crashed his car, he struck a Pottstown Police car in his attempt to evade capture, police said.
According to information provided by Pottstown Police, their counterparts in Philadelphia had previously issued information about Davis as a wanted person in connection with an aggravated assault and shooting charge for an incident in Philadelphia.
Davis and his black Jaguar were described by Philadelphia
police and Pottstown officers located the vehicle, with Davis inside it, at
about 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of Chestnut and Franklin streets.
When they attempted to stop the vehicle he drove off “at a high rate of speed,” according to a statement released by police
At one point, Davis attempted to cut through the Trinity Church Parking lot between King and Chestnut streets. His Jaguar struck and disabled the police car that cut him off at the back entrance
onto Chestnut Street, said Pottstown Capt. Robert R. Thomas.
The officer driving the police car that was struck was not injured, but Davis was able to drive off.
However, a few minutes
later at the T intersection of King and Berks streets, the Jaguar crashed into a utility pole, disabling the vehicle.
Davis was injured as the result of the crash.
He was treated on the
scene and taken by helicopter to a trauma center where, police said, he is listed in stable condition.
No officers or bystanders were injured in the pursuit and capture of Davis, police said.
