Gebhardt takes next step for Bloom

- By Bill Arsenault For Digital First Media

Mackenzie Gebhardt had a big freshman season with the Bloomsburg women’s soccer team, but she’s doing even better this season.

Gebhardt, an Upper Perkiomen grad, has scored four goals and added an assist to help the Huskies post a 12-2-1 overall record and a 11-2-1 mark in PSAC play. The team, ranked 15th in Division II, has won eight straight.

Not only has Gebhardt scored goals but she had back-to-back game-winners and she scored early in one and late in the other. On Oct. 12, she scored 91 seconds into the game to give the Huskies a 1-0 league victory over Seton Hill in Bloomsburg. Then on Oct. 14 she tallied the only goal in a 1-0 league triumph over East Stroudsburg in East Stroudsburg, Gebhardt hitting the back of the net at the 85:31 mark.

As a freshman, she started all 18 games and had five goals and an assist for 11 points.

“Mackenzie had an immediate impact on our team as a freshman and has not rested on those laurels,” coach Matt Haney said. “She dedicated herself to learning the nuances of her position and understood the fitness it takes to play in wide spaces.”

The coach feels that her hard work is paying off for the Huskies.

“She has played a huge role for us down the stretch.” Haney said. “The other great thing about MacKenzie is that she works equally hard in the classroom.”
