Salata’s late runner lifts Boyertown to first win

Aarick Salata had the fleet feet for the Boyertown boys basketball team Thursday night.

Fleet enough to get the Bears a 48-46 victory over Owen J. Roberts.

Salata’s runner, with just under 10 seconds left, provided Boyertown its margin of victory and led the Bears to their first win of the Pioneer Athletic Conference slate.

The Bears’ offensive lead was shared by Hunter Borgmann and Tre Diguglielm­o, who each had 15 points while Chris Kiefer finished with 12 points in the win.

Sa’Vaughn Davidheise­r and Jalen Lucas led the Wildcats (02) with 13 and 12 points, respective­ly. DANIEL BOONE 55, TWIN VALLEY 34>> Chaunce Johnson hit for a game-high 27 points to key the Blazers’ romp over the Raiders in Berks Conference action.

Johnson got nine of his points on baskets from the far side of the 3-point arc. The Blazers led all the way and converted 20 fouls in the win, headed by Johnson’s 8-for14 effort. POTTSGROVE 51, UNIONVILLE 48 >> Manny Clark nailed a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to cap a 15-3 run in the final four minutes and lift the Falcons over the Indians in a non-conference matchup.

For the game, Clark finished with 18 points while Khaliym Smith added 13 and Justin Robinson had nine for Pottsgrove, which scored 23 points in the final frame. Unionville’s Connor Ash finished with 17 points in the loss. PHOENIXVIL­LE 59, INTERBORO 27 >> A big game from 3-point range was key to the Phantoms rolling over the Bucs in non-league play.

K.J. Quinn got 12 of his gamehigh 15 points off long-distance shots, and Colton Brown got all nine of his from outside the arc. Bryce Palko kicked in with another pair of treys in helping Phoenixvil­le open a 25-8 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 34-11 halftime advantage.

Girls basketball

PHOENIXVIL­LE 54, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 9 >> Aubrie Breisblatt headed the Phantoms’ offense as they rolled over Collegium in nonleague play.

Breisblatt had a gamehigh 20 points for Phoenixvil­le (4-0), with Ameerah Green adding 11 points and six steals. Marlee Brown chipped in with eight points, and Nailah Green with seven, as the Phantom defense limited Collegium to no more than three points in any quarter. ANTIETAM 58, POTTSTOWN 41 >> Paige Glovenski scored 17 points and Alayna Day and Katura McCorkle each had 14 as the Mountainee­rs (30) outscored the Trojans (04) by 20 in the second half to prevail.

Kiyah Cotton had 19 points to lead Pottstown.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 107, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 63 >> Owen Miller and Oliver Tye each won two individual races to lead the Bears in their PAC meet with the Vikings.

Miller took first in the 200 free (1:49.92) and 100 free (49.55), with Tye doing the same in the 200 IM (2:03.15) and 100 fly (54.72). Jacob Replogle had PV’s lone first in the 500 free (5:03.35). SPRING-FORD 100, OWEN J. ROBERTS 70 >> Luke McKenna and Brendan Baganski were two-race winners for the Rams in their PAC meet with the Wildcats.

McKenna headed the 200 free (1:52.09) and 500 free (4:57.10) while Baganski took the 50 free (22.71) and 100 free (51.57). Jonah Kasznay won the 200 IM (2:08.93) and 100 back (57.19) for Owen J. Roberts. METHACTON 103, POPE JOHN PAUL II 45 >> The Warriors won the first eight events in their PAC meet with the Golden Panthers. PENNINGTON PREP 105, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 63 >> Tom Csisek figured on the Panthers’ two first-place finishes in their meet with Pennington Prep.

Csisek won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:29.85. He also swam a leg of Perkiomen’s winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Zachary Glavin, Robert Saeger and Michael Wheeler. EPISCOPAL AC. 100, HILL SCHOOL 81 >> John Nelligan had the Blues’ lone firstplace showing in their meet with Episcopal.

Nelligan took the 100 freestyle, beating his opponent by half a second.

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 109, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 61 >> Gabrielle McKee and Emily Drabick each won two individual races to lead the Bears in their PAC meet with the Vikings.

McKee took first in the 200 IM (2:12.82) and 500 free (5:16.84), with Drabick doing the same in the 50 free (26.17) and 100 breast (1:12.42). Emily Hinz was a two-race winner for PV, heading the 200 free (2:02.94) and 100 fly (1:03.25). OWEN J. ROBERTS 92, SPRINGFORD 73 >> Abbey Malmstrom and Mikayla Niness each won two individual races to key the Wildcats’ victory over the Rams in their PAC meet.

Malmstrom took the 200 free (1:58.65) and 500 free (5:24.37), with Niness following suit in the 50 free (24.02) and 100 free (53.18). Meredith Ruckelshau­s had Spring-Ford’s lone individual first in the 100 breast (1:16.30). METHACTON 103, POPE JOHN PAUL II 70 >> The Warriors ran their record to 2-0 with a win over the Golden Panthers in their PAC meet. EPISCOPAL AC. 104, HILL SCHOOL 77 >> Wins by Kiersten Dagg and Alex Zelinlske were the highlights for the Blues in their loss to Episcopal.

Dagg overtook EA’s leading swimmer in the last 100 yards to prevail in the 500 free. Zelinske took the other individual first for the Hill girls in the 100 backstroke. PENNINGTON PREP 99, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 68 >> Carley Smith figured on three of the Panthers’ four firsts in their meet with Pennington Prep.

Smith won the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:34.95, in addition to swimming legs on Perkiomen’s winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Angela Forsythe had a first in the 100 backstroke (1:15.08) while participat­ing in Perkiomen’s 200 free relay.

Wrestling

DANIEL BOONE 63, OLEY VALLEY 15 >> Daniel Drumheller, James Hogan, Michael Elphick, Brady Barton, Gavin Richard, Chase Stehman and Canton Dolla all secured pins for the Blazers as they rolled over the Lynx in Berks Conference action.

Devin Dolla chipped in with a technical fall and Josh Smith with a major decision for Boone (2-0). Elijah Karas had a pin for Oley Valley (1-1).
