For the past year, silversmith Uwe Bauer has been creating original designs in sterling silver and semi-precious stones. His efforts have been rewarded by the large collection of jewelry --unique and distinctive to the Delaware Valley-- that now graces the shelves and showcases of The Silver Shoppe, which is now celebrating its 46th Christmas.
Bauer first began designing jewelry over 46 years ago. In 1968, he left his native Germany for the United States and began creating his own American dream. He spent his early years as a silversmith traveling in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with his American wife, Margaret. They fell in love with Pennsylvania and settled in Collegeville where they opened their original store in 1972. Seven years later, the shop was relocated to its present location between Cutillo’s Restaurant and Landis Supermarket in Sanatoga Village
Over the many years at its present location, the shop has attracted a clientele that that is persistent in its loyalty. Bauer is proud of the fact that he has such faithful and enduring customers. He remembers selling a first grader a present for her teacher and then, many years later, helping that first grader’s own child buy a present for another teacher. Many people remain faithful customers long after they have moved away and continue to make a visit to the Silver Shoppe part of any return trip to the area. Many schedule a visit to the Silver Shoppe as a “must see” stop for family and friends who are visiting. And many of those visitors in turn become faithful customers themselves.
The Silver Shoppe provides a unique holiday shopping experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the Pottstown area. Silver garlands and colorful Christmas balls decorate the store, and a small Irish wood-burning stove offers customers warmth from the wintry chill. This atmosphere ensures a lovely shopping experience while you search for an affordable and perfect gift for special occasions or for that special person in your life.
Beautiful bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings, all made from sterling silver and designed with exciting swirls, scrolls and unique shapes are handsomely displayed for your perusal. Whether you are looking for a gift that is rich with ornamentation or one that is fashionably elegant and simple, you will find something at The Silver Shoppe. “There are just too many things to choose from” is a common complaint.
Semi-precious stones add brilliant splashes of color to the jewelry. Bright turquoises, blood-red garnets, dark onyxes and lovely amethysts are among the many different stones available. A multitude of colorful agates from blue lace to leopard to green Botswana, and other lesser known stones from the far reaches of the earth, each with its own unique look are also available. Many pieces are made with brilliantly colored synthetic rubies, emeralds and sapphires--for that expensive look at an affordable price.
Bauer’s jewelry collection includes many necklace and earring sets are which created by using a combination of silver tubing, chains and semi-precious and sterling silver beads. These sets range from the whimsical to the sublimely elegant and appeal to a wide range of ages and tastes and have proven to be among his most popular items.
Holiday hours begin on Friday, November 23rd. The Silver Shoppe will then be open every day until Christmas Day. Holiday hours are Monday through Thursday 11 am to 6 pm; Friday 11 am to 7 pm; Saturday 10 amto 5 pm; and Sunday 12 pm to 4 pm.
