Pottstown woman charged with drug possession
LOWER POTTSGROVE >> A Pottstown woman is facing charges after she was allegedly found under the influence of drugs and in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police have charged April Dotterer, 42, of Pottstown, after police say she was found on a curb suffering from what appeared to be a medical emergency.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, at approximately 3:13 p.m., Lower Pottsgrove Police Chief Michael Foltz was driving west on East High Street at Sunnybrook Road when he observed Dotterer seated on the curb in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy.
Foltz noticed that Dotterer appeared to be suffering some sort of medical emergency or was under the influence of a controlled substance as he witnessed her fall over and briefly lose consciousness, according to a release on the department’s Crime Watch page.
Foltz immediately requested an ambulance and went to render aid, police said.
Officer Ryan Smith and Officer Christopher Vasek assisted with the investigation. Their investigation revealed that Dotterer was suffering from the effects of illegal drugs and was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and suspected heroin, according to police.
She was arrested and transported to Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Lower Providence. Dotterer is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.
She was arraigned by District Judge Edward Kropp, Sr. and committed to Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail pending a preliminary hearing.
