Carol L. (Pettit) Messer, 71, of Douglassvi­lle, wife of Gerald N. Messer Jr., passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at her home.

Born in Pottstown on November 30, 1947, she was the daughter of the late William and Annette (Smith) Pettit.

Carol was a member of the Bird Chapter No. 460 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as trustee. She graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1965 and attended Kutztown College until 1969. She went on to receive her Masters in Education from Penn State University. Carol worked as a teacher at Reading High School, North East Junior High in Reading, and Pottsgrove High School. At the West Campus of Montgomery County Community College, she worked as a placement testing advisor, health sciences advisor, and as an adjunct instructor for the Reading Department and retired after 19 years of service. Carol loved to travel and read and enjoyed animals and wildlife of all types.

Surviving with her husband of 48 years is son William S. Messer; sisters Irene Pettit and Doris Baer; grandson Tyler Messer; half-brother John Slatauski, husband of Ruth, of Las Vegas and half sister Barbara Feltman, wife of Lowell, of Las Vegas. She is predecease­d by her sister Nancy Pettit.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, February 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, with the family greeting friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A private burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s name to Forever Home Rescue, 97 Zeiber Rd., Parkerford, PA 19457.
