ASSIST FROM WIZARDS
Harlem Wizards help raise funds for Boyertown education
BOYERTOWN >> The Foundation for Boyertown Education held a major fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 16, and you might say it was a slam dunk.
Boyertown Area High School’s gymnasium filled quickly Saturday as families arrived to witness the Harlem Wizards play basketball against the Foundation All Stars, a team consisting of faculty and staff from around the Boyertown Area School District.
The event served as a fundraiser for the Foundation for Boyertown Education, welcoming families, students and alumni to witness some serious basketball skills along with plenty of antics.
The Harlem Wizards could be seen spinning basketballs, making half-court shots and pumping up the crowd with their comedic stunts in between 8- minute periods of play against the Foundation All Stars.
In addition to enjoying the game, attendees also had plenty of opportunities to win free merchandise as kids were chosen to play in half-time games and prizes were tossed to the crowd.
The event is one of the foundation’s biggest fundraisers.
Approximately 760 tickets were sold for the event and all proceeds go toward the Foundation for Boyertown Educa-
tion.
“National Honors Society students are here to help with souvenirs and concessions, they helped with set up. Forty-five plus students came out to help with this event today and we couldn’t do it without them,” said Tessi Melchior, executive director of the Foundation For Boyertown Education. “The Foundation’s Event Committee, the Faculty Advisory Committee, which is made up of all the teachers and the Foundation Board of Directors are all here to help support the event.”
The Foundation, founded in 2013, is composed of community-based volunteers and is a registered and independent, 501 (c) (3), nonprofit organization. Its goal is to enrich educational experiences for the students of the Boyertown Area School District by providing grants and enhanced learning opportunities.
