ST. LAWRENCE >> A cat that was stolen from Diane’s Pet Center has been returned, according to the store’s owner.

Ashes, a gray Persian cat that was taken from the store on Sunday — along with a parrot — has been returned. The bird, a white-capped Pionus parrot named Levi is still missing.

According to Central Berks Regional Police, officers got a call on Sunday between 3 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. about individuals in a small silver vehicle, possibly a BMW, who were observed backing into the front door of Diane’s Pet Center, 3001 Perkiomen Ave. (Business Route 422).

It was discovered that the individuals involved had then forced the door open and removed the animals, police said.

Diane Stetler, the store’s owner, said although Ashes was returned Monday morning, she is unsure who returned her or how she was returned.

“Our door is busted and my husband spent the night here and we searched the entire place and she wasn’t there. She always comes when she’s called. I was in the back in the fish room, I didn’t hear anyone come in and when I came up front there she was looking up at me,” said Stetler.

Although she’s very happy to have her back, Stetler added the cat hasn’t quite been herself.

Levi, a parrot that was temporarily at the store while his owner was on vacation, is still missing. His owner, Maryanne Rybarczyk, is now offering $1,000 for his safe return or any information that leads to his safe return.

Stetler said she’s hoping that anyone who sees the bird or knows anything about the incident contacts police.

Police are asking that if anyone can provide any information, please contact Officer Matthew Rissmiller or Detective Sgt. Deron Manndel at 610-779-1100, or via Berks Radio at 610-655-4911.
