Professional and student dance company collaborate for multi-media dance concert
Melange Contemporary Dance and the Pottstown Dance Theatre Repertory Ensemble will join forces on Saturday, March 30, at 7 p.m. as well as Sunday, March 31, at 3 p.m. at the very elegant Hill School Center for the Arts located at Beech and Sheridan streets in Pottstown.
Under the direction of international dance artist Michelle Jones Wurtz, the first act will be a reconstruction of her masterpiece, “New World,” set to the music of A. Dvorak and telling the story and struggles of the birth of our nation. Megan Schultz, an alumnus and now instructor in the school, will play one of the lead roles, while Hannah Brumbach, a professional dancer in the TriState area, will portray a lead supporting role. Sofia Bischof, Lydia Black, Lacey Krause, and Brianna Shank will also dance lead roles representing various ethnicities that were forced to co-exist in a new environment. The work is multimedia in nature and utilizes the computer talents of Ms. Wurtz’ late husband, Jonathan Wurtz.
The second act will showcase Melange Contemporary Dance and begin with a tribute to the great jazz singer Nina Simone, then feature Ms. Wurtz herself, concluding with “Katrina’s Cross”; a work about life in New Orleans before, during and after Hurricane Katrina. Currently Melange employs the skills of Hannah Brumbach, Madison Eichert, Kathy Kerner Johnson, Kelsey Nieckoski, Kelsey Patrick, and Megan Schultz. This is probably one of the best dance concerts the two organizations have created together!
