Sheriff attends veto signing event in D.C.
On Friday, President Trump vetoed the resolution drafted by Congress to reject the national emergency declaration. At the event was Chester County Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh.
The Republican sheriff, a longtime supporter of President Trump, was standing to the left of the president as he signed his first veto during an Oval Office ceremony attended by law enforcement officials from around the country.
In February, Trump used authority provided by Congress to access up to $3.6 billion in military construction funds provided by Congress. The President declared a national emergency under the National Emergencies Act. Trump provided brief remarks on national security and the crisis on the southern border.
Welsh recently announced she will not seek a sixth term.
Among those at the ceremony were Vice President Mike Pence, Kellyanne Conway, Assistant to the President and Senior Counselor; Jim Carroll, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy; Attorney General William Barr, Department of Justice; Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Department of Homeland Security; Acting Administrator Uttam Dhillon, Drug Enforcement Agency; Matt Albence, Executive Associate Director for Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Senior Official Performing the Duties of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deputy Director.
