District: Threat causing high school lockdown unfounded
POTTSTOWN >> Pottstown High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday as officials investigated a possible threat that was determined to be unfounded.
The school district posted a notice about the incident on its Facebook page and website Wednesday afternoon.
“Today the high school was placed in a lockdown due to information we received about a personal dispute involving a few students. Through the investigation by the administration, it was discovered that a social media post was the concern that resulted in in the lockdown. The administration identified the source of the concern and did NOT find any credible threat towards students, staff, or the school,” read part of the statement posted.
John Armato, the district’s director of community relations, said the matter appears to have begun as a verbal conflict over the end of a romantic relationship.
The district’s investigation discovered a social media post by one of those involved that was cause for concern, but it could not be determined how old the post was, or if it was even related to anything at the school, he said.
“We determined there was no credible threat, but as we all know there is a heightened awareness about school threats these days, so the district wanted to ensure every precaution was taken,” Armato said.
“As a result of the information shared with the staff, we were able to quickly address the concern and keep everyone safe,” read the district’s statement. “We encourage you to share any information or concerns that you have by contacting us at 610-970-6700.”
