Celebrate the true meaning of Easter

- —Lee Hallman Gilbertsville

Every spring our great nation sets aside a day to celebrate what is arguably the greatest event in the history of the world!

Think about it: Jesus of Nazareth walked out of the tomb on the third day after He had been crucified. How many religious leaders have done that?

His resurrection gives every true Christian the sure hope of eternal life after physical death. God promises that to all those who become His followers, but only His followers.

No wonder we celebrate. He is the way to heaven, the only way, a claim Jesus Himself made when He was on earth. To many people, physical death means the end; but the Bible teaches that all people, having been created in God’s image, are triune eternal beings with a body, soul and spirit.

Physical death is only part of that eternal existence, an entrance into eternity. Even skeptics will find that out; hopefully before it is too late.

That was common knowledge when our nation had the Bible as the foundation for learning as it was when our nation established public schools a couple of centuries ago.

That bedrock for all learning was declared unconstitutional in the 1960s, and ignorance about Divine wisdom has plagued our great country ever since. How do you think we became a great nation?

Why have we now become a divided nation with a culture of increasing hate? Is it not because we are now relying on man’s ideas for morality rather than God’s truth? Man’s ideas differ. God’s absolute eternal truth as revealed in the Bible is solid and is the key for a better culture with better people and stronger families.

Read it and find out what Easter is all about. It is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a celebration of life after death for the followers of the resurrected Savior of the world. Not every American believes that, and that is OK in our free country; but not believing truth does not change truth.

I’m glad the United States of America celebrates His resurrection, the day He defeated death. Jesus is alive! He promised to return to earth. He will! Meanwhile, let’s celebrate! Happy Easter!
