Pottsgrove baseball wins third straight game in final at-bat

Silvestri’s game-winner gives Falcons 2-1 win over Pottstown

The Pottsgrove baseball team keeps coming up clutch.

The Falcons won their third straight game in their final at-bat Thursday as Joe Silvestri’s single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Jack Sibley for the game-winning run in a 2-1 win over Pottstown in a Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division matchup.

Pottsgrove (6-0 PAC Frontier, 6-3-1 overall) scored both its run in the seventh, courtesy runner Connor McGlinchey scoring on Evan White’s one-out single to tie it 1-1. White took second on a catching error on and was replaced for courtesy runner Sibley after Gibson McMonagle was intentiona­lly walked, which set up Silvestri’s game-winner.

A pitchers’ duel up to that point, it made Pottstown’s David Hicks the hard-luck losing pitcher after throwing six shutout innings. His final line was 6.1 innings, six hits, two runs (one earned) to go with seven strikeouts and a walk.

Ethan Edelson threw a complete game three-hitter for the Falcons. He struck out nine and walked three.

Pottstown (1-4, 2-7) scored its run in the third inning after Josiah Wiggins’ two-out single and steal of second base. Dalton Mullen singled to right field to score Wiggins for the 1-0 lead.

Pottsgrove’s White and Cooper Fiore were the game’s only players with two hits. OWEN J. ROBERTS 5, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4» After forcing a tie in their PAC Liberty Division game with the Vikings, the Wildcats scored in the 11th to claim the victory.

Zachary Weaver, pitching the last five innings in relief, got the

win after scattering five hits and striking out five. Josh Diamond was Roberts’ leading hitter with a 3-for-4 day, and Jon Hannevig had a triple and double.

Hayden Bailly (two doubles) and Connor McShea each went 3-for-6 to lead PV. DANIEL BOONE 6, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 0 » Jeb Kurtz gave the Blazers a masterful pitching performanc­e as they rolled the Whippets in non-league play.

Kurtz scattered five hits and two walks in his complete-game stint, which featured eight strikeouts. He was supported by an offense that, getting two RBI from Chase Lacey, scored four times in the third inning to put Boone up by a comfortabl­e margin. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 6, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 0 » A fourrun second inning was key to the Panthers rolling over Episcopal Academy in nonleague play.

Jeremy Amaro singled in one of the runs in the second. In the third, Owen Taylor hit a double off the wall and Jayden Kemp singled him home; and in the sixth, Jose Aviles walked, stole second and scored on an Amaro single for Perkiomen (8-2). BOYERTOWN 13, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 5 » Derick Basile swung the biggest bat for the Bears as they handled the Golden Knights in nonleague play.

Basile drove in five runs on 4-for-5 hitting for Boyertown, which opened a 12-3 lead after four innings. Caleb Harrison and Broc Babb each went 2-for-3 and drove in pairs of runs to help make a winner of starting pitcher Jared Waldman, who went four on the mound before Gavin Richards and Shayn Horrocks closed out the game. PHOENIXVIL­LE 5, STRATH HAVEN0» Three pitchers combined on a two-hit, four-strikeout effort as the Phantoms blanked the Panthers in non-league play.

Justin Blakey, the second Phoenixvil­le hurler to see action, got the win with 3-1/3 innings of two-hit, three-strikeout work. Trip Shoemaker was the Phantoms’ hitting star, driving in three runs off 2-for-3 batting. FLEETWOOD 4, UPPER PERKIOMEN 3 » Reece Fenstermac­her led off the stop of the sixth with a walk, AJ Laucks sacrificed him to second, and Colton Cromer drove him in with an RBI single to score the winning run as the Tigers (3-7) defeated the Indians.

David Kilroy had UP’s lone RBI.

Softball

DANIEL BOONE 16, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » Caitlin McCrone threw a four-hit shutout and got more than enough run support in a non-league rout of Upper Perk.

The potent Blazers lineup got a monster day from Dani Hayes, who was 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBI. Kristen DiNolfi (double, RBI), Liz Nitka (double, RBI) Hannah Johns (two RBI) and Hailey Kaba (double, RBI) had three hits apiece for Boone, which led 6-0 after three innings and broke it open in the final two frames. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 8, BOYERTOWN 1 » The Whippets scored multiple runs in the second, third and fourth inning and went on to a nonleague win over the Bears.

Taylor Posner, Carly Grandizio and Nina Gallagher, with two hits each, led West’s 12-hit attack.

Julia Smith went 2-for-3 for Boyertown.

Boys lacrosse

SPRING-FORD 15, INTERBORO 2» Hayden Groff’s hat trick headed a balanced offensive for the Rams in their PAC victory over the Bucs. With a total 11 players contributi­ng points, SpringFord also benefited from the two-goal efforts of Nick Teets (three assists), Collin Pettine and Peyton Gensler (two assists). Ben Swarr (four), Matt Smith (three) and J.T. Lundquist combined on eight-save goaltendin­g in limiting Interboro to a pair of tallies by Nick Mormando. Bryan Maguire had a huge game with six assists; Ignacio Ortiz, Bobby Batten and Lucas Kapusta each scored twice; and team captain Steven Schaefer pulled in 10 ground balls to lead the team to victory. BOYERTOWN 11, METHACTON 10» Hat tricks by Mike Federico and Kobi Bui led the Bears in their PAC Liberty Division overtime victory against the Warriors.

Justin Sanelli scored PERKIOMEN VALLEY 7, OWEN J. ROBERTS 5 » After a 0-0 first quarter and a 2-2 second quarter, Nick Steele led the Vikings to victory over the Wildcats in PAC play.

Steele stepped up in the second half along with the rest of his teammates, scoring two of his three goals to give PV a critical lead down the stretch. Junior Matt Brock stepped up at the faceoff in the second half, going 7-for-10 after halftime. EXETER 12, DANIEL BOONE 5 » Jon Oberholtze­r scored five goals and Jason Metz had three goals and two assists to lead the Eagles over the Blazers in Berks Conference play.

Ethan Darrenkamp scored two goals for Daniel Boone, which got eight-save goaltendin­g from Jared Glanski. GEORGE SCHOOL 15, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 4 » Harrison Gavin’s two-goal showing was the high point for the Panthers in their non-league loss to George School.

Paul Schlabach and Anthony Csisek completed Perkiomen’s scoring, with Leo Orth getting credit for an assist.

Girls lacrosse

POTTSGROVE 14, POTTSTOWN 5 » Emily Williams’ four-goal showing keyed the Falcons in their PAC Frontier Division victory over the Trojans.

Pottsgrove also got a hat trick from Allie Reppert and two-goal showings from Riley Simon and Sydney Tornetta. Pottstown was headed by Da’zah Regusters’ four goals and Reilly Owens 15-save goaltendin­g. BOYERTOWN 11, METHACTON 8 » Kristi Kada and Amanda Diachynsky accounted for the bulk of the Bears’ scoring in their PAC Liberty Division victory over the Warriors.

Kada had a game-high five goals, one more than Diachynsky’s four, to help Boyertown open a 7-4 halftime lead. Jayme Weber had a hat trick for Methacton, with Mia Sheldon adding another pair of tallies. OWEN J. Eloise Gebert chipped in with a five-goal effort for Owen J, which outscored PV by a 9-1 margin in the second half. EXETER 17, DANIEL BOONE 4 » Isabella Karstien scored four goals and Brooke Wisniewski had three for the Eagles intheir Berks Conference game with the Blazers.

Boone’s scoring came from Mia Bishop, Keri Graff, Addison Leahy and Adriana Reilly.

Boys volleyball

BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 3, DANIEL BOONE 0 » The Bullets swept their Berks Conference match with the Blazers by set scores of 2522, 25-23 and 25-19.

For Daniel Boone, Colin Bliss had 11 kills, an ace and one block; Danny Kerr had 10 digs and an ace; and Noah Tindall had three kills and five blocks.

Boys golf

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 128, AIM AC. 162 » Drew Steinmetz claimed low-man honors for the Panthers at Butter Valley G.C.

Steinmetz shot a twoover 38 for nine holes. He was followed by teammates Ben Griffaton (41) and Thomas Dormer (49) for Perkiomen (4-0, 4-2).
