SUNBURY » Weis Markets has kicked off a fundraising campaign to support the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Mission: ABLE campaign, which works to provide paralyzed veterans with access to care, jobs and benefits.

The three-week campaign, launched June 20, provides an opportunity for Weis customers to make small donations at Weis checkouts by rounding up their orders or purchasing $1, $3 or $5 vouchers through July 10.

This is the third in-store Paralyzed Veterans of America campaign. In 2018, Weis and its customers donated a total of $225,000 to support Paralyzed Veterans of America.

“We have many associates who served our country, including our late Chairman Robert F. Weis, and we are thankful to them and to all who have served our country. That’s why we are so pleased to be once again working in support of Paralyzed Veterans of America,” Ron Bonacci, vice president of advertising and marketing for Weis Markets, said in a press release.

To kick off the 2019 campaign, Weis Markets recently presented a $25,000 corporate donation to the Paralyzed Veterans of America at the Pocono 400 NASCAR race in Long Pond.

More than 42,000 American veterans live with spinal cord-related paralysis, according to the release. Paralyzed Veterans of America’s mission is to “create an America where the most severely injured veterans are provided the physical care needed to live a healthy life, receive the benefits they’ve earned through military service and obtain job training and opportunities for new and fulfilling careers,” the release stated.

Founded in 1912, Weis Markets Inc. operates 200 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Virginia and West Virginia.
