Hill field hockey upends No. 4 EA

HILL SCHOOL 3, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY2>> Kennedy Cliggett struck for the game-winner with three minutes remaining as Hill knocked off nationally-ranked Episcopal Academy in its season opener Wednesday.

Hill opened up a 2-0 lead as Josephine Palde and Logan Clouser combined twice for goals (goal, assist each). EA, ranked No. 4 in the nation in the preseason, leveled the match with 18 to play but Cliggett gave Hill the decider before Blues goalie Hayley Gable (10 saves) and the defense held off EA down the stretch. METHACTON 6, BOYERTOWN 0 >> Alexa Kratz’s three goals led the Warriors in a lightning-shortened PAC win over the Bears Wednesday.

Other Warrior goals were scored by Liz Chipman (two assists), Bayla Plower (assist) and Madison Noh, all coming in the first half. UPPER PERKIOMEN 7, POPE JOHN PAUL II 1 >> Balanced Upper Perk rolled PJP in a PAC Frontier win Wednesday. UP goals came from Jenna Fiorito, Jess Traynor, Kate Rodenberge­r, Ashlyn Gatto, Kylene Gooch (two assists), Colleen Creneti and Luci Carpenter. PJP goalie Kristen Miller had 18 saves.

Boys soccer

OWEN J. ROBERTS 4, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3 >> A wild, back-andforth matchup went the way of the Wildcats on Andrew Christofor­ou’s 59th minute goal after the Vikings tied the game 3-3 with two goals in three minutes.

Ethan Gawlik, who assisted on the winning goal, Ethan Williams and Gavin Zorn scored OJR’s other goals. Alex Chamorro put PV up 1-0 in the 9th minute, while Owen Slack and Matt Holmes scored in a bunch in the second

half after going down 3-1.

OJR assists also came from Noah Greenspan and Kyle Storti. Alfredo Grimaldi assisted on the Vikings’ first and third goals. POTTSGROVE 8, POTTSTOWN 0>> Kevin Menendez, Justin Collings and Jeremy Thompson each scored twice in the Falcons’ win over the Trojans Wednesday.

Other scoring contributo­rs for Pottsgrove were Troy Watts (goal, assist), Landon Shivak (goal), Shane Gleason (assist) and Mike Troutman (assist).

BOYERTOWN 2, METHACTON0>> Samantha Goffice and Camilla Kuever were on the mark as the Bears won their season opener over the Warriors Wednesday night.

Kayleigh Mattis and Madison Monka were credited with assists while Madison Gallagher needed two saves to earn the clean sheet. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 0, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 >> The Vikings and Wildcats settled for a lightning-shortened scoreless draw. The game was called at halftime after a 0-0 opening 40 minutes. UPPER PERKIOMEN 2, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 >> The Indians struck early and late in a shutout of the Golden Panthers for a PAC Frontier win Wednesday.

Emily Schaut, assisted by Hannah Keeney, found the net in the 3rd minute before Kate Cairns, assisted by Sara Edwards, sealed it in the 79th minute for UP (3-1).

Hannah Landis made five saves for the shutout while Anastasia Kormos had four saves for PJP. SPRING-FORD 12, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Rams improved to 4-0 with a PACopening win over the Eagles Wednesday. Ella Curry had two goals and two assists while other players to contribute on multiple goals were Raven Wellington, Isabella Branco, Carlin Glancey, Riley Wallace, Moly Thomas, Ally McVey and Grace Sharkey. LOWER MORELAND 2, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 >> Scoring goals in each quarter Thursday, the Lions blanked the Phantoms in non-league play.

LM’s tallies were a free kick by Phoebe Lynch and an unassisted put-in by Nicole Caster. Ella Stout gave Phoenixvil­le nine-save goaltendin­g.

Girls volleyball

METHACTON 3, NORRISTOWN 0>> The Warriors swept the Eagles 25-19, 25-22, 25-18. Leading the way for Methacton (2-1) was Sydney Zerbe (15 kills, one ace, 5 digs), Melinda Eglinton (8 kills, two aces, 10 digs, 2 blocks) and Meghan Haftl (29 assists, 1 dig). Defensivel­y, Emma Ginther and Nya Cherry had 11 and 10 digs, respective­ly. BOYERTOWN 3, DANIEL BOONE 0 >> Boyertown played their first home match of the season against the Blazers and won in straight sets, 2515, 25-15, 25-14. Leaders for the Bears were Emily Wolfe with 16 kills, Julia Smith had 17 digs, Emma Ludwig added 27 assists, Adrianna Derstine had 7 kills and Jess Ahart added 5 kills. The Blazers were led by Ally Santos with 9 digs, Jessiani Valentin-Mendez with 10 assists, Valori Klick added 5 kills and 3 blocks. POPE JOHN PAUL II 3, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 >> The Golden Panthers cruised in three sets, 25-9, 25-8, 25-11. PJP leaders were Sarah Ward (8 kills), Hanna Tulli (9 kills), Tea Pasquale (10 digs) and Chelsea Harvey (20 assists). POTTSGROVE 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 2 >> The Falcons prevailed in five sets, 25-13, 2519, 16-25, 24-26 and 15-10.

Boys cross country

SPRING-FORD 15, NORRISTOWN 50 >> Five Rams shared first place while sweeping the Top 10 spots in the finishing order during Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division meet with the Eagles.

Maxwell Collins, Andrew Carlin, Alexander Fink, Anthony Bamford and Liam Baker were all clocked at 18:12 for Spring-Ford, with Nicholas Trapani fifth at 18:51. The Rams filled the first 17 spots, Norristown getting an 18th and 19th from Ricardo Moreno and Rueben Morales. UPPER PERKIOMEN 22, POPE JOHN PAUL II 37 >> Blandin Conklin and Donnie Miller went 1-2 to lead the Indians past the Golden Panthers in Wednesday’s PAC Frontier Division meet.

Conklin clocked an 18:04 and Miller an 18:09. Jack Brosius scored third (19:41) for PJP while teammate Jason DiMarco was fourth (19:43). METHACTON 25, BOYERTOWN 34 >> Through Christian McComb took first place for the Bears, the Warriors claimed seven of the next nine spots Wednesday to win this PAC Liberty Division pairing.

McComb, the PAC’s defending meet champion and a third-place District 1-AAA finisher in 2018, ran a 17:42 to beat out Methacton’s Bryan Landsberg (17:58) and Charlie Dorazis (18:18). Eric Muthersbau­gh (fourth, 18:23) and Cameron Kratz (sixth, 18:42) were Boyertown’s other Top 10 finishers, Methacton’s pack including Vaughn Lackman (18:25) in fifth and Aiden Byrne (18:46) in seventh.

Girls cross country

SPRING-FORD 15, NORRISTOWN 50 >> The Rams dominated their PAC Liberty Division meet with the Eagles Wednesday, having runners sweep the Top 10 finishing field.

Alyssa Mulhall ran a 22:46 to score individual race honors for SpringFord. Nora Albertson followed in second place with a 23:00. METHACTON 15, BOYERTOWN 48 >> Maddy Ziegler led a solid run by the Warriors in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division meet with the Bears.

Ziegler ran away from the pack, finishing first in a 22:01 clocking that was more than two minutes faster than runner-up teammate Misa Kasparcova’s 24:08. Zora Bergey was Boyertown’s leader, seventh in 25:02. POPE JOHN PAUL II 17, UPPER PERKIOMEN 45 >> Gianna Cagliola led the Golden Panthers to victory in Wednesday’s PAC Frontier Division meet with the Indians.

Cagliola placed first in a time of 22:22. Natalie Florig (22:45) and Kathryn Todd (22:46) followed in second and third for PJP, with Natalie Curley (24:14) coming in fourth to lead UP.

Girls tennis

SPRING-FORD 7, UPPER MERION0>> The Rams dropped just four games in the singles bracket on the way to their PAC victory over the Vikings Thursday.

Isabel Mejia and Riley Burke both went 6-0, 6-0 at their respective secondand third-singles slots. UM’s top performanc­e came from Rhea Desai, who won four games at first singles.
