Pottstown — First Presbyteri­an will have its annual Rally Day at 9:15 on Sunday morning in its Fellowship Hall with the opportunit­y for all children and youth and their parents to meet with their Sunday School teachers for the year. The Sunday School teachers and youth advisers will be commission­ed in worship, which takes place at 10:30. Sunday afternoon, from 4:00 to 7:00 the Deacons will host the annual church-wide picnic, with games inside and outside, and dinner inside at 5:30. Individual­s and families are asked to bring a side dish to share. The Deacons will provide chicken, dessert, and beverages. As always, the picnic will end with a water balloon toss. Pottstown — Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover and Chestnut Streets welcomes Kim Adamson as guest minister to the 10:15 am worship service this Sunday. Isa Bartolini will play a piano solo “Holly for Miss Quinn” for the offertory. Laura Clattenbur­g and Nicole Towarnicki rewrote the lyrics to “The Vacant Chair,” a poem by Henry S. Washington with music by George Root. It was inspired by the death of American Civil War soldier John William Grout. It signifies the empty space his absence left as the family gathered for Thanksgivi­ng. The rewritten lyrics pay a tribute of remembranc­e and honor to those lost at the World Trade Center, Shanksvill­e and the Pentagon. Laura will sing this as the special music this Sunday. A special offering will be received for the Phoebe Home. This ministry is a non-profit support service for seniors founded in 1903. The 250th anniversar­y Reception at the SunnyBrook Ballroom will take place Sept. 29 following the Homecoming worship service. Please plan to attend and return the registrati­on payment by Sept. 15.
