First Presbyterian
Pottstown — First Presbyterian will have its annual Rally Day at 9:15 on Sunday morning in its Fellowship Hall with the opportunity for all children and youth and their parents to meet with their Sunday School teachers for the year. The Sunday School teachers and youth advisers will be commissioned in worship, which takes place at 10:30. Sunday afternoon, from 4:00 to 7:00 the Deacons will host the annual church-wide picnic, with games inside and outside, and dinner inside at 5:30. Individuals and families are asked to bring a side dish to share. The Deacons will provide chicken, dessert, and beverages. As always, the picnic will end with a water balloon toss. Pottstown — Members of Trinity UCC, 60 N. Hanover Street will return to the Sanctuary for worship this Sunday. Our Fall schedule will be in place, with adult Sunday School and Confirmation Classes beginning at 8:30 AM. Morning worship will begin at 9:30 AM and include a children’s sermon followed by Sunday School. A Congregational meeting will follow morning worship. The purposed of the meeting will be to adopt a proposal to up-grade the sound system and add video systems to both the sanctuary and Fretz Chapel. A special fellowship hour will follow the meeting. Nursery care is available and all are invited.

Saturday, Sept. 7, members of St. Peter’s Lutheran and St. James Lutheran Churches, Pottstown, will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Manatawny Manor for the “God’s Work ... Our Hands” project, making homemade fleece lined blankets for Lutheran World Relief. The blankets will be distributed to provide protection and comfort to those in need whether In a hospital room or laying on the ground. The Senior Choir will resume rehearsals after their summer break on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Pottstown — Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover and Chestnut Streets welcomes Kim Adamson as guest minister to the 10:15 am worship service this Sunday. Isa Bartolini will play a piano solo “Holly for Miss Quinn” for the offertory. Laura Clattenburg and Nicole Towarnicki rewrote the lyrics to “The Vacant Chair,” a poem by Henry S. Washington with music by George Root. It was inspired by the death of American Civil War soldier John William Grout. It signifies the empty space his absence left as the family gathered for Thanksgiving. The rewritten lyrics pay a tribute of remembrance and honor to those lost at the World Trade Center, Shanksville and the Pentagon. Laura will sing this as the special music this Sunday. A special offering will be received for the Phoebe Home. This ministry is a non-profit support service for seniors founded in 1903. The 250th anniversary Reception at the SunnyBrook Ballroom will take place Sept. 29 following the Homecoming worship service. Please plan to attend and return the registration payment by Sept. 15.

Limerick — A “Fall Kick-Off Celebration” will be held on Sunday. Third graders will be presented with Bibles. A blessing will be given to small group leaders, Kids Connect teachers, and His Kids Nursery school staff. Kids Connect for children will be held during the 9 a.m. service. Small group leaders will be available during fellowship time between the 9 and 10:45 a.m services. They will explain their groups and invite others to participate in their activities. Barto — We invite you to worship with us on this the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost on Sunday, Sept. 8, at our morning worship service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pr. Ann Baly, Bridge Pastor, will be leading the congregation in a service of Holy Communion, present the sermon as well as present the Children’s Sermon for the morning. On this Sunday, we will join with other ELCA congregations in recognizing this as “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday, in which we will bless the quilts that have been made by members of the congregation. These quilts have a patriotic theme and will be available for those who have served or are serving in our military. There will be a special hymn sung during the service.
