Chesco man robs bank, then gets cold feet and calls police
HONEY BROOK >> A Chester County man robbed a Morgantown bank Monday, got away, and called 911 to surrender while police were still in the bank investigating, officials said.
Caernarvon Township police said they got a report at 12:11 p.m. Monday that someone had just robbed the Ephrata National Bank branch at 6296 Morgantown Road.
Dispatchers described the robbery suspect as a male, 5-feet, 5-inches tall, wearing a blue windbreaker and blue jeans.
Bank tellers told police the suspect displayed a note saying he had a gun. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled the bank in an unknown direction. Bank employees said the man did not display a gun even though he claimed to have one.
As Caernarvon and Robeson Township police officers, who were assisting with the investigation, were interviewing bank employees, they received a call from 911 dispatchers reporting that they had a man on the phone claiming he had just robbed the bank branch and giving his name as Kevin D. Pierce.
The caller reported to dispatchers that he just committed the robbery and he was on his way home to Honey Brook, Chester County.
Caernarvon police headed to Pierce’s home and requested assistance from state police at Embreeville.
Troopers immediately went to the address Pierce provided and arrested him before Caernarvon police arrived. The troopers recovered the stolen cash from Pierce while making the arrest.
Caernarvon police took Pierce before Senior District Judge Thomas M. Gauby Jr. in Reading Central Court, where he was arraigned on two counts of bank robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and related offenses.
Pierce was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
