Missing teen, 16, found dead near park
UPPER HANOVER >> The search for a missing teen girl ended Wednesday afternoon with the discovery of her body.
The Town and Country newspaper reported that the search for Maryann Dyer, 16, ended around 3 p.m. Wednesday in an area near 11th Street.
A cause of death was not available.
An updated post on the Upper Perk Police Department’s Facebook page shortly after 6 p.m. confirmed her death.
“We have no information to indicate there is a threat to the community,” according to the post. “There is an open investigation and we cannot release any further information at this time.”
A message left with Upper Perk Police Chief Joseph Adam Jr. Wednesday evening was not immediately returned before press time.
Police had posted a missing person poster on the department’s Facebook page Wednesday morning after Dyer did not come home from Upper Perkiomen High School on Tuesday.
According to police, Dyer called her mother at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and said she would be taking a walk before coming home from school.
She was last seen walking east on 11th Street in Red Hill borough sometime after that phone call, according to police.
Police asked anyone with surveillance cameras along Dyer’s supposed route to check their feeds
and contact police if Dyer was spotted.
A short time after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, police and members of the Pennsburg Fire Company gathered in the parking lot of Macoby Creek Park to undertake a search, Town and Country reported.
A short time later, her body was discovered in the area.
