Bite of Berks takes bite out of college costs for students
Tickets are now on sale for the Berks County Conservation District’s A Bite of Berks scholarship event, planned for Monday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Berks County Agriculture Center, 1238 County Welfare Road, Leesport.
A Bite of Berks is a competitive tasting event featuring local restaurants, bakeries, caterers, food trucks, orchards, wineries and other food related businesses, offering a sample bite of something delicious.
Participants get a “passport” and travel around to the vendors, voting for the best bite in each category: soup, salad, side, main dish, dessert and beverage.
Awards will be given to participants with top vote totals.
The conservation district has confirmed 15 food vendors and still has room for more.
Tasting starts around 6:15 p.m. Before that, the conservation district hosts a scholarship and awards program featuring guest speakers and the naming of conservationist of the year and farmer of the year. The winner of farmer of the year will receive a large engraved sign to place on the farm.
High school and college-age students pursuing environmental sciences or a related a career path will be awarded scholarships from the conservation district in the amounts of $10,000, $6,000, $4,000 and $400. A number of other scholarships will also be awarded.
A Bite of Berks is a fundraising event for the Conservation District Scholarship Fund.
