The Spring-Ford girls tennis team swept Thursday’s Pioneer Athletic Conference undefeated showdown with Perkiomen Valley.

In the process, the 7-0 victory enabled the Rams to gain the inside track on winning the PAC team title.

The Rams shined in singles with freshman Cady Krause, Isabel Mejia and senior Riley Burke claiming straight-set victories. Krause took a well-earned 6-4, 6-3 win over PV’s Nadja Townsend in a preview of a possible late-round matchup in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Singles tournament, set for Friday and Saturday at Perkiomen Valley.

At No. 1 doubles, Spring-Ford’s Lucy Olsen and Casey Goldstein won the match of the day over PV’s Olivia Newman and Emily Shoemaker, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, Hannah Sharkey and Emma Griffin rallied past Meghana Sahasrabuddhe and Kaitlyn Murphy, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The S-F teams of Lana Hang and Breanna Weigelt at No. 2 and Alyssa Sharma and Lauren Tang at No. 4 cruised in their doubles wins.

Poised to win their second PAC team title in three years, SpringFord (9-0 PAC) closes out against Pottsgrove (Sept. 24) and Owen J. Roberts (Sept. 26) next week. METHACTON 7, PHOENIXVILLE 0 » The Warriors dropped only one set in a PAC win over the Phantoms Thursday. Field hockey

It was a complete team effort for the Perkiomen Valley field hockey team Thursday, even though the score sheet reflected how Katie Wuerstle (hat trick), Danielle Hamm and Cristina Dougherty (goal and assist each) were dominant on the offensive side of the ball in the 5-0 victory.

Wuerstle put the eventual game-winner in the cage on a feed to the end line from Ashley Elvidge after she carried the ball past three defenders. Dougherty put the Vikings up 2-0 five minutes later on a goal close in off a great assist from Lauren Keyte.

In the second half, Wuerstle completed the hat trick with two goals in a threeminute span. Hamm had without a doubt the nicest goal of this contest: By sheer will of force, she took a restart at the 25, eliminated several defenders and nailed a rocket past the Phoenixville defense. The final 10 minutes had Perk Valley executing pinpoint passing with Saige Shine giving Hamm a much needed rest in the middle of the field and directing the play.

Phoenixville played exceptional corner defense, holding PV scoreless on 11 attempts.

Perk Valley generated several more corner chances but again the tough Phoenixville defense held the Vikes off. Lauren Keyte, Cristina Dougherty and Ari Martina had very strong games. SOUDERTON 3, METHACTON 1 » Nicole Uebele had the Warriors’ lone goal in Wednesday’s non-league loss to the Indians.
