Charlie Maddocks threw the daggers but it was Christian Moreno and Fleetwood’s running game that inflicted the most severe damage on Daniel Boone’s defense.

Maddocks threw three touchdown passes but needed to put the ball up just four times after halftime as the Tigers used a big ground game to remain unbeaten with a 28-17 nonleague win at Brazinsky Field.

Christian Moreno ran for 145 yards and the clinching touchdown, a 6-yard run that gave the Tigers (50) an 11-point lead with 9½ minutes left.

Overall, the Tigers ran for 241 yards – twice as much as Maddocks’ passing total. The Tigers’ run game overshadowed a huge night by Boone’s Tanner Vanderslice who ran 22 times for 220 yards.

Nate Millard kicked a 24yard field goal, and Justin DeMild hit Alex Vassallo for a nine-yard touchdown pass to put Boone up 10-0 early in the second quarter. After Fleetwood closed the first half with two touchdowns to go up 14-10, Vanderslice broke off an 81-yard touchdown in the third quarter that put the Blazers on top 17-14

That lead lasted less than 90 seconds as the Tigers were in the end zone in just four plays, the last a 26-yard TD pass from Maddocks to Matt Pierce – Maddocks’ third scoring pass of the night. EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 21, HILL SCHOOL 7 >> A five-yard touchdown run by Cooper Sugden was the Hill’s lone score in the loss to EA.

The Churchmen held Hill to 170 total yards of offense, and EA quarterback Marcus McDaniel rushed for 116 yards and passed for 103 more. Michael Jamerson ran 13 times for 73 yards to lead the Hill offense.

After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, the Hill defense held strong before an EA touchdown in the third made the score 210. Sugden’s score with just more than 11 minutes to play wasn’t enough to spark a Hill rally.
