Missing man found dead near river trail

UNION TWP. >> A Montgomery County man was found dead along the Schuylkill River Trail in eastern Berks County after he was reported missing, state police at Reading said Tuesday.

No foul play is suspected in the death of James Simpson, 55, of Perkiomenville, according to police.

His family reported him missing and said he was last known to be on the trail in the Union Township area. A search of that area was conducted and he was found Monday night in the 1200 block of East Main Street, which is also Route 724, near the trail.

It was unclear when the man went missing.

Police are continuing to investigate.

State police from Reading provide coverage for Union Township, which doesn’t have its own municipal police force.
