Republican­s dominate in Boyertown School Board race

No candidate running on only the Democratic line won a single one of the five open seats on the Boyertown Area School Board Tuesday night.

Two candidates who appeared on both the Republican and Democratic lines in the Region II and Region III race were successful.

Here are the results by region:

Region 1

Republican incumbent Christine Neiman defeated incumbent Democrat Rodney Boyer by 471 votes for the single open seat with a four-year term.

According to unofficial results, Neiman collected 1,809 votes and Boyer 1,338 votes.

A second seat with two years remaining on the term was won by Melody McWherter, who was unopposed and appeared on both ballot lines.

Region 1 is located entirely in Berks County.

Region II

In Region II, which is partially in Berks County and partially in Montgomery County, voters decided on two open seats with four-year terms.

Easily winning one of them was Lisa Hogan, who collected 2,529 votes. Hogan appeared on both Democratic and Republican ballot lines.

The second seat was won by James Brophy, who appeared on the Republican line. According to unofficial results, he won 1,910 votes to the 1,494 votes won by Heather Stehman, who was on the Democratic line.

Region III

Brian Hemingway, who appeared on both the Republican and Democratic lines was the top vote-getter in this contest for two open seats.

According to unofficial results, he collected 3,348 votes.

Winning the second seat was Roger Updegrove, who appeared on the Republican line and earned 2,312 seats.

Bryan Lees, who appeared on the Democrat line, was 290 votes behind Updegrove, winning only 2,022 seats.

Region III is located entirely in Montgomery County.
