Perk Valley gets PIAA win over District 2 champion

Perkiomen Valley senior Kelly Baitinger scored two goals in a span of just more than two minutes to help the Vikings get out ahead early in a 3-1 win over District 2 champion Wilkes-Barre Area in the PIAA Class 3A first round Tuesday.

The Vikings, who have advanced to the state quarterfin­als for the second consecutiv­e year, will face District 3 champion Lower Dauphin on Saturday.

Baitinger tallied her first goal off an assist from Katie Wuerstle with 23:56 left in the first half. She then scored off an Ashley Elvidge assist to give PV a 2-0 lead at the 21:51 mark.

The Vikings carried the two

goal advantage into the second half before WilkesBarr­e’s Jolene Ulichney scored on a corner with 20:25 left in the game. Wuerstle picked up her second assist, finding Danielle Hamm on a corner with 16:50 remaining to put PV up by two for good.

While both teams earned eight corners, PV outshot Wilkes-Barre, 18-8. Vikings goalie Ashley Derrick saved seven of the eight shots she faced. HILL SCHOOL 2, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 0 >> Josephine Palde scored twice, and Hayley Gable was impressive in goal as Hill won its PAISAA semifinal game Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s semifinal loss.

Palde put Hill ahead 1-0 with a goal three minutes into the game and added another with 13 minutes left to seal the victory. Gable made four saves to record her second consecutiv­e shutout. Hill outshot GA, 22-5, and had a 15-5 advantage in corners.

Hill moves on to face Episcopal Academy, last year’s champion, on Nov. 12 in the PAISAA championsh­ip game at The Proving Grounds in Conshocken.

Girls soccer

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 2, BARRACK HEBREW 0 >> The Panthers picked up their second league title this season, defeating Barrack on Tuesday for the TriCounty League crown after winning the Penn-Jersey League last week.

After a scoreless first half, Rianne Moll opened the game’s scoring off of a pass from Cece Vassallo, with a left foot shot at the top of the 18. Cheyenne McCloud scored the second goal for Perkiomen on a corner from Moll to put away the win. Abbey Glavin had seven saves in the net for the shutout.

Boys soccer

HILL SCHOOL 2, GERMANTOWN AC. 1 >> Kyle Sullivan broke a tie in the 55th minute to move top-seeded Hill into Thursday’s PAISAA semifinal match with fourth-seeded Kiski Prep.

Kai Reis opened the game’s scoring for the Blues in the fourth minute off an assist from Zach Barrett before an own goal by Hill tied the game seven minutes later. Barrett later found Sullivan for the game-winner.

Blake Groff and Alan Kim spit time in net for Hill with Kim recording three saves. Germantown Academy goalkeeper Steve Smith made seven stops.
