Maris Grove Residents Donate 450 Handmade Blankets to Children in Need
Members of Maris Grove’s Blanket Circle recently donated 450 Project Linus handmade fleece blankets for local children in need. The fair market value for the blankets is approximately $6,750.
The mission of the club at the Erickson Living developed and managed senior living community in Glen Mills, PA., is making and distributing blankets to provide warmth, comfort, and love to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. The resident-run club has 120 members and is a chapter of Project Linus of Chester and Delaware Counties.
The soft blankets are all the same size (32” x 48) and are trimmed in hand crochet borders of yarn that enhance the colors in the fleece patterns. Over the last ten years, the Maris Grove Blanket Circle has handmade and donated more than 15,000 blankets for children in need.
“Whether across town or around the world, groups like The Blanket Circle represent the best of our community and truly exemplify Maris Grove’s mission of sharing our gifts to create a community that celebrates life,” said Director of Resident Life Todd Sullivan.
The Blanket Circle is just one of the many clubs on campus dedicated giving back to help the community. Sullivan estimates that more than 450 residents volunteer somewhere, which equates to more than 25% of Maris Grove’s population.
