Boscov’s issues virus guidelines
Boscov’s Department Store Chairman and CEO Jim Boscov gave customers an update on what the Exeter Township-based department store is doing as the coronavirus spreads.
In an open letter emailed to customers and posted on the company’s website Thursday morning, Boscov said the company is “closely following the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control.”
“In this fast changing situation, we continue to monitor the CDC’s recommendations and consult with the appropriate professionals to ensure the health and safety of all of us — our customers, coworkers and members of the local communities,” Boscov said in the statement. “By following the best practices recommended by the CDC and other health care professionals, we are confident that our stores are safe.”
He said all employees have been instructed to “follow recommendations” regarding hand washing and to avoid touching their face, nose and mouth. The company has also instructed any sick employees to stay home.
Boscov’s has stopped all nonessential business travel, and all travel to countries considered level 2 or 3 by the CDC, which includes most of Europe and China. Any worker who has traveled to those countries have been told to self-quarantine at home for 14 days.
Furthermore, the statement said, all of Boscov’s 50 stores, offices and public service areas are cleaned daily. Special attention is being paid to sanitizing bathrooms, door handles, hand railings and any other frequently touched surfaces. Hand sanitizer has been placed throughout stores for customers and employees.
