Kiwanis Club of Pottstown Foundation awards scholarships
The Kiwanis Club of Pottstown Foundation recently awarded scholarships to five area high school graduates.
The recipients of $2,000 scholarships are:
• Abigail Bulafka, a graduate of Daniel Boone High School who will be attending North Carolina State University to study psychology.
• Jacob Santos, a graduate of Daniel Boone High School who plans to major in biobehavioral health on the pre-med track at Penn State - University Park.
Recipients of $1,000 scholarships are:
• Ryan Coughenour, a graduate of Daniel Boone High School who will be attending
Washington & Jefferson College and majoring in accounting.
• Victoria Pastor, a graduate of Daniel Boone High School Victoria who will be attending Towson University in the fall and will be majoring in forensic chemistry.
• Camryn Rogers, a graduate of Owen J. Roberts
High School who will be attending The University of Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in nursing.
Kiwanis International was established in 1915 to serve the world’s children.
The Kiwanis Club of Pottstown was established in August 1923 to bring that service to the area. The club supports several service
leadership programs in the local schools such as KKids for elementary school children, Builder’s Club for middle schoolers, and Key Club for high school students.
A part of our support of those programs, Kiwanis offers scholarships through the club’s Foundation to all seniors within the high
schools with active Key Clubs.
The recipients are selected through a two-step process where they are quantitatively judged on application completeness, record of service, record of leadership, demonstration of citizenship, letters of recommendation, academics,
participation and their essay.
The top applicants are selected after a face-toface (Zoom this year) interview with the Selection Committee, where they are judged on poise, self-confidence, content of answers and general appearance and demeanor.
