NORRISTOWN » A Norristown man is on his way to jail on charges he endangered others, including his pregnant girlfriend and her children, during a drug-fueled domestic-related disturbance in the home they shared.

Matthew Christian Cash, 31, of the 1300 block of Markley Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County

Court to 11½ to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to charges of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person in connection with a February 2019 incident at the Markley Street residence.

Judge Todd D. Eisenberg also ordered Cash to complete five years’ probation following parole, meaning Cash will be under court supervision for about seven years.

As a condition of the sentence, the judge ordered Cash to have no offensive contact with the victims. The judge said he will consider early parole for Cash after nine months if Cash is paroled directly to an inpatient substance abuse treatment program.

The investigation began about 1 a.m. Feb. 21, 2019, when Norristown police responded to the Markley Street residence for a report of a physical domestic-related incident. Arriving officers encountered a naked Cash on the stairs of the residence in “a very agitated state, yelling, cursing and claiming to be Jesus Christ,” clenching his fists and disobeying police commands, according to the criminal complaint filed by Norristown Detective David Crawford.

Police alleged Cash approached them in an aggressive manner and one officer deployed his Taser and after a brief struggle Cash was taken into custody, according to court documents.

A woman who identified herself as Cash’s girlfriend told police that during a disturbance Cash grabbed her by the neck and pushed her down the stairs, according to the arrest affidavit. The woman, who was pregnant, told police her neck and back were injured and that she feared for her life during the altercation, according to the criminal complaint. The woman was treated at Einstein Hospital, police said.

Police alleged Cash also approached the woman’s two daughters in a bedroom and took off his clothes and told one of the girls to take off her clothes. The girls ran from the bedroom and fled from the house, police said.

During a subsequent interview, Cash told police that he was high on PCP during the incident, according to court papers.

Other charges of aggravated assault of an unborn child, simple assault, strangulation, terroristic threats and harassment were dismissed against Cash.
