Virtual walk raises $92,000 for Arc of Chester County
WEST CHESTER » The Arc of Chester County’s recent virtual 1-Mile Walk and 5K fundraiser event raised an impressive $92,000 for individuals they serve with disabilities and their families.
This year’s walk-run event went virtual following the COVID-19 crisis, with overwhelming support from title sponsor Communications Test Design (CTDI) and the community-at-large.
More than 200 walkers and runners rallied and set out at 9 a.m. from their own neighborhoods, walking and running separately but united for The Arc. Participation included walkers and runners from all over
Pennsylvania, the state of Delaware, and as far reaching as Massachusetts.
Many walkers and runners formed fundraising teams to raise additional dollars for The Arc.The combined effort of individual donors, local organizations, and corporate sponsors reinforced the power of community.
Event proceeds and corporate sponsorship will aid as a lifeline to keep The Arc’s vital and essential services flowing for those in need of The Arc’s support. Donations continue to come in post event, with a new goal set of $100,000.
“We are humbled and incredibly grateful for the outpouring of community support,” said Jeanne Meikrantz, executive director of
The Arc of Chester County. “With the support of CTDIand the rest of the generous sponsors and loyal supporters, we can make sure no one is left behind especially during this pandemic. Now more than ever, families, children, and adults with disabilities and their families are relying on our supports and services.”
Last year, the physical event was held at West Goshen Community Park in West Chester. Adults and kids alike, walked through bubble stations along a one-mile course or ran a 5K through adjacent neighborhoods. The 2020 virtual Walk & Run extended The Arc’s reach allowing for people to get involved outside Chester County and walk or run at a course of their choosing.
“It was incredible to see the virtual show of support,” added Stephen Potts, board president of The Arc of Chester County. “Walkers and runners shared photos on social media as they set out with loved ones from all overneighborhoods, parks, trails, sports fields, and nature preserves. The Arc Walk, Run & Fun event was an opportunity to be a champion for children and adults with disabilities and it also made us feel more connected to one another during COVID,” said Potts.
The Arc provides a lifetime continuum of services in Chester County and the surrounding area, to 3,000 individuals and families a year.
