DeSean Jackson will sit out his 14th game since rejoining the Eagles last season, this time due to an ailing hamstring.

The Eagles also will be without the services of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (foot), and cornerbacks AvonteMaddox (ankle) and TrevorWilliams (rib) when they oppose the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium (8:20, Fox29).

Wide receiver JJ ArcegaWhiteside (calf) is doubtful, offensive tackle Jason Peters (foot) questionable.

Jackson played in more than 54 percent of the snaps in the first two games, including 77 percent against the Los Angeles Rams two weekends ago. Last Sunday he was on the field for just 28 of a possible 91 offensive snaps (31 percent) due to a hamstring injury.

“He’s getting better,” head coach Doug Pederson said Friday morning. “He’s getting stronger. He won’t be out there again today as far as that goes. He’ll be inside, getting treatment and things of that nature, trying to get himoptimistic for the game on Sunday. And then J.J. will actually get some work today. We’ll have him out there and see where he’s at. He’s progressing really well, so we hope to get him out on the field today.”

Jackson is fourth on the Eagles with 10 receptions for 121 yards. He leads the team with two catches of 25 or more yards. He played in just three of 16 games last season, missing the wild card game as well.

The absence of Jackson means another opportunity for rookie John Hightower, the fifth-round pick out of Boise State.

“You’ve got to take advantage of every opportunity that you get,” said Hightower, who has three catches for 17 yards. “You’ve just got to know what you’re doing so when the time comes, you’ll be ready.”

All-Pro tight endGeorge Kittle (knee) is back for the Niners. So is running back Jerick McKinnon (ribs).

The 49ers listed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) as out along with running back Raheem Mostert (knee), cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (concussion), tight end Jordan Reed (knee), defensive end Dee Ford (back) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad).
