OJR beats Perk Valley to lead off 2021 season

The Pioneer Athletic Conference’s last girls lacrosse league champion, Owen J. Roberts, picked up right where it left off two seasons ago when it rolled to its sixth straight league championsh­ip.

In their first game of 2021 Tuesday, the Wildcats cruised to an 18-3 win over Pottsgrove after jumping ahead 13-2 at halftime. They followed with a 20-5 victory over Boyertown on Wednesday.

Gabbi Koury netted four goals and Maggie Kilgallon added a hat trick for OJR in the win over Pottsgrove on Tuesday, while Alexa Vogelman, Gracyn Smith, Emily Himmelreic­h and Ava Clemson scored twice.

Blakely Doyle, Quinn Defibaugh and Sierra Milano also scored for the Wildcats.

Vogelman (3), Koury (2) and Colby Wasson (1) tallied assists. Goalkeeper Korrigan Sweeney made four saves. Sydney Tornetta scored all three goals for Pottsgrove.

On Wednesday against Boyertown, Koury added eight mor goals and Vogelman added six more. Smith scored twice and Doyle, Himmelreic­h, Kilgallon and Avery Wentzel added tallies.

For Boyertown, Delaney Fox scored twice and Emma Beidler, Jordan Woodring, Alina Friz and Jasmine Fink added a goal apiece. Beidler, Allie Schell and Fink had assists for the Bears.

EXETER 18, DANIEL BOONE 6 >> Maya Metz had six goals and Makayla Ott had three goals and an assist to lead the Eagles past the Blazers in Tuesday’s Berks League contest.

Reigan Juhasz and Megan Unruh each had two goals and an assist and Haley Pierson

two goals for Exeter. Mia Bishop and Amanda Spotts each scored three goals for the Blazers (0-1, 1-2).

UPPER MERION 12, POTTSTOWN 1 >> Cat Merritt’s five goals led the way for the Vikings in Wednesday’s vicstory over the Trojans.

Julianna Callison and Olivia Smith both scored twice for UM with Ashley Evitts, Riley Robinson and Brooke Olsen also adding goals. Callison, Evitts, Robinson and Olsen also added assists.

Destri Roye scored a goal and Dashawnia Dean made five saves for Pottstown.

Boys lacrosse

METHACTON 15, BOYERTOWN 9 >> Justin Sanelli and Gunnar Seaman scored four goals each in the Warriors’ win Tuesday ov er the Bears.

Alex Kowalczyk and Jimmy Maro added two goals apiece, while Matt D’Orsogna, Mike Merola and Brody Borkowski added one. Goalie Owen Avelar made eight saves.

At half the score was 7-4 Methacton but the Bears couldn’t overcome Methacton’s offense and play at the face off X. Aidan McFalls had four goals and one assist for Boyertown, which got two-goal performanc­es from Lane Yergey and Luke Heimbach, a solo tally from Gage Parker and two-assist games from Jonathan Mayan and Grizz Eardley.

EXETER 14, DANIEL BOONE 1 >> Ty Yonas had three goals and four assists and Jon Oberholtze­r scored four goals to lead the Eagles (1-0, 3-0) over the Blazers (0-1, 0-2) in Tuesday’s Berks League action.

Jude Segaline scored for Daniel Boone, assisted on the play by Dominick Rogers. Antonio Rulli and Vincent Ciotti shared goaltendin­g duties for the Blazers, Rulli making 11 of the locals’ 14 saves.

Boys tennis

METHACTON 7, UPPER MERION 0 >> The Warriors took six matches in straight sets Tuesday as they rolled over the Vikings in PAC play.

A 6-0, 6-0 sweep by second-singles player Darren Brady was the highlight for Methacton. UM’s best outing came at first doubles, where Jon Doan extended Jeff Cooper to three sets. SPRING-FORD 7, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 >> In a PAC match filled with four tiebreakin­g duels, the Rams swept the Wildcats.

Spring-Ford’s best individual showings came in doubles, where the teams of Will Cano/Liam Sanders (first) and Jacob Collier/Yash Rohera (third) lost only four games apiece. One of OJR’s better efforts was turned in at second doubles, Ethan Ladd and Jack Sawicki winning eight games in their contest with Dan Thorpe and Ethan Shakour. BOYERTOWN 7, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Bears dominated the two contested matches in Tuesday’s PAC match with the undermanne­d Eagles, coming away with the easy victory.

Nick Gehrigner posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles while Boyertown’s fourth doubles duo of Jager Wahl and Zach McDonald swept a 6-0, 6-0 duel. The Bears were forfeit winners in the other matches.

Softball

METHACTON 5, POTTSGROVE 0 >> Paige Deal struck out 17 while scattering three hits and one walk as the Warriors blanked the Falcons in Tuesday’s PAC divisional crossover game.

Liv Terry was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI, and Sereena Goodridge was also 2-for-3 with two RBI. Tori Bockrath hit a lead-off home run to open the sixth inning while Nicole Timko doubled for Methacton

M. Eckman took the loss for Pottsgrove. K. Santino doubled for Pottsgrove. PENN MANOR 14, DANIEL BOONE 2 >> Kristen DiNolfi and Amber Williams were the batting stars for the Blazers as they sustained their first loss of the season Tuesday, in a non-league matchup with the Comets.

DiNolfi hit a double and Williams drove in a run for the Blazers (2-1), whose 2-0 lead in their first at-bat was short-lived. Penn Manor plated a combined 11 runs in its first two at-bats, then brought the “mercy rule” into play with a three-run fourth.

Boys track

MUHLENBERG 79, DANIEL BOONE 71 >> The Blazers’ superiorit­y on the track Tuesday wasn’t enough to prevent a loss to the Muhls in their Berks League meet.

Boone’s 60-27 scoring difference on the track was offset by Muhlenberg’s 5211 lead in the field. Mason Jolivette swept the hurdles while Connor Stuart headed the 100 and 400; both seniors also ran legs of the Blazers’ winning 4x400 relay. Collin Swartwood also figured in on three DB firsts, taking the 800 and running the anchor legs on the 4x800 and 4x400 relays.

Girls track

DANIEL BOONE 84, MUHLENBERG 61 >> Ashley Benoit figured in on four first-place finishes Tuesday as the Blazers topped the Muhls in Berks League competitio­n.

Benoit won the 800 and 1,600 in addition to running legs of Boone’s winning 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Emma Kay (100, 200), Lily Ferguson (long jump, triple jump) and Hannah Cassner (javelin, discus) added to the Blazers’ scoring with multiple firsts.
