THORNBURY >> Self-described conservative and Republican Bob Kennedy, 29, hopes to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-6th of Easttown.

The chemical engineer donated seed money to the campaign and quit his job to run full time.

“I will fight harder than anyone to fix our broken government and protect our rights,” he said.

The basketball player and Thornbury resident said he appeals to persuadable swing voters, such as moderates, independents, minorities and the young.

“I’m the right person to advance conservative goals while appealing to those swing voters,” he said.

“Change will only come when all people demand it.”

Kennedy’s priorities include fixing what he said is our broken government by enacting term limits.

Married with no children, he favors stopping gerrymandering. Kennedy said that district lines should, as much as possible, reflect existing county lines.

He wants to also end partisan gridlock by making congressional elections more competitive through reform.

Kennedy would aim to grow the economy with low taxes and free markets and “stop reckless spending so the national debt does not bankrupt the country.”

The candidate wants to find a balance between where politicians are constantly being concerned with short-term reelection rather than long-term fixes.

“The overall political system works great for politicians,” the lover of geography and history podcasts said. “Congress constantly has an approval rating of around 20 percent, and yet incumbents get reelected 95 percent of the time.

“It’s up to us to force them to support political reform or be voted out,” he said.

Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District includes all of Chester County and much of southern Berks County, including the City of Reading.
