Aaron’s first career goal not enough in loss to Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, MASS. >> Homegrown Paxten Aaronson scored the first goal of his MLS career but it wasn’t enough to end the Union’s struggles on the road.

Gustavo Bou put home the rebound after his penalty shot was stopped in the 39th minute by Union goalie Andre Blake and that goal carried the New England Revolution to a 2-1 victory over the Union at Gillette

Stadium Sunday night.

The Union (7-5-7) is winless in their last seven road matches. That’s the longest streak since a 16-game drought from May 2017 to May 2018.

In his first start, the 17-year-old Aaronson tied the score on a strike from inside the box in the 31st minute but it did not stay level for long. Bou tallied his 11th goal of the season eight minutes later to put the Revolution up for good.

Bou is tied with Seattle’s Raul Ruidiaz for the most goals in MLS. Matt Polster scored his first goal of the season in the 10th minute to give New England a 1-0 lead.

The loss dropped the Union to fourth in the Eastern Conference.

The Union fly to Mexico City Monday to take on Club America in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals on Thursday (10 p.m., FS1).
