Rita Pederson named new Steel River director
POTTSTOWN >> Steel River Playhouse has named Rita Pederson as its new managing director.
Pederson “has been a part of the Playhouse family for several years as a parent, a volunteer, and as the development director before taking on this new role. The 17-month shutdown gave the team an opportunity to review the needs and future direction for the Playhouse, and because of her breadth of experience, Rita is well-positioned to help lead the team into the future,” according to a press release issued by Steel River.
According to Leena Devlin, Steel River’s artistic director, “Rita brings creativity, intelligence, and compassion to everything she does. She is passionate about our mission, and I couldn’t be more excited to have her in this position.”
“The last year has brought home the importance
of connection and inclusivity, and I look forward to working with the staff and community to make Steel River Playhouse a safe space to share ideas, come together, and tell our stories,” Pederson said in the press release.
The theater reopened in August with sold-out performances of “Heathers the Musical: High School Edition,” and auditions for “A Christmas Carol,” the holiday show chosen by the community pre-pandemic.
Upcoming fall productions include “The Ethics of Living Jim Crow,” “Aesop’s (Oh So Slightly) Updated Fables, and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Fall classes
in dance, music and theater arts for children and adults begin in mid-September.
