AmerisourceBergen officially opens global headquarters
Construction on the Conshohocken facility started in April 2019
The wait is over. Global healthcare company AmerisourceBergen has officially opened its new global headquarters in Conshohocken. Company officials unveiled the new facility during a Sept. 28 ribbon cutting.
Construction on the 429,000-square-foot facility — designed by Gensler — began in April 2019. It includes technologyenabled conference and business centers, a fitness center, and dining site services. The new building is part of SORA West — a multifaceted complex developed by Keystone Property Group which will also include a 127-room boutique hotel, rooftop bar and lounge, public plaza, two new restaurants, and a 1,500-space parking garage.
“When people see our headquarters, I want them to know that it represents so much more than an office space — it represents a workforce that’s dedicated to ensuring access to vital medications and therapies here in the U.S. and across the globe,” Steve Collis, chairman, president & CEO of AmerisourceBergen, said dur- ing the Sept. 28 event. “Our team members in the Philadelphia region and beyond play a vital role in keeping the health care supply chain moving every day, and I am so proud of their efforts, especially during the pandemic.” He added that the building is a “concrete example” to the company’s commitment to employees.
AmerisourceBergen has 1,100 employees in the Philadelphia region, and the new headquarters can accommodate 1,800-2,000 employees. According to a company spokeswoman, employees began returning to the office Sept. 13 on a voluntary basis.
“The company is working under a hybrid model called the ‘Work Smart Platform,’ meaning that team members are encouraged to work from home and come into the office when they desire,” spokeswoman Mackenzie Liberatori, said in an emailed response to questions.
She added that the office is built
to accommodate a blend of working from home and the office, and construction “evolved” to allow for flexibility. In addition, she said during construction the company was able to pivot during the pandemic to provide safety protocols like antimicrobial seats, partitions at desks and separate working stations to accommodate social distancing.
The new office houses a stateof-the art fitness facility, modern standing desks at all workstations, and an onsite café with healthy food and snack options — part of AmerisourceBergen’s efforts to promote sustainability and employee wellbeing. The company is also actively pursuing a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
“Our new global headquarters has been thoughtfully designed and strategically located to promote team member engagement, and I believe the building is an
accurate reflection of our culture and purpose to create healthier futures,” Silvana Battaglia, chief human resources officer at AmerisourceBergen, said in a statement. “Whether teams choose to come into the office or work from home, we’re excited to have this resource available to team members and continue our flexible work dynamic. Maintaining a positive and productive workplace culture is extremely important to us.”
During the event, the company announced it has been recognized as a Great Place to Work for the third consecutive year.
As part of the process to become a Great Place to Work, data about the company’s company culture, workplace experience and contribution to the community was collected and validated by Great Place to Work, an authority on workplace culture.
According to the third-party survey conducted, 85% of employees
said AmerisourceBergen is a great place to work — 26 points higher than the average U.S. company.
AmerisourceBergen and the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, an independent not-for-profit charitable giving organization focused on supporting healthrelated causes that enrich that global community, have awarded community grants and corporate gifts totaling $150,000.
The Foundation provided local community grants to All 4 Paws Rescue, Colonial Neighborhood Council, Patrician Society of Central Norristown, Schuylkill River Greenway Association, and Victim’s Services Center of Montgomery County.
Through a corporate gift, national nonprofit Fresh Artists was able to install and display largescale reproductions of children’s art throughout AmerisourceBergen’s headquarters. More than a third of the artwork was made by K-12 children
in Norristown public schools.
“At the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, we work tirelessly to foster diverse, equitable and inclusive partnerships that create healthier lives and communities and continuing that mission in our own backyard is incredibly important to us,” Gina Clark, president of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, said in a statement.
AmerisourceBergen is a leading global healthcare company, with a foundation in pharmaceutical distribution and solutions for manufacturers, pharmacies and providers.
