Justin Jaworski kept the news quiet, waiting for his future employer to make the announcement.

On Saturday, the cat was officially let out of the bag.

The Perkiomen Valley product will play for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G League affiliate — the Oklahoma City Blue — this season.

Oklahoma City announced the signing of Jaworski on Saturday before waiving him later in the day as he will play for the Blue.

“I probably accepted the deal close to a month ago,” said Jaworski, a Schwenksville native. “I’ve been here (Oklahoma City) for a little over two weeks ago. I’ve known for a while now. I just officially, officially signed today.”

Jaworski spent the past two weeks doing preseason activities at Oklahoma City’s NBA and G-League facilities, working out with the Thunder during their training camp.

While he has worked out privately with NBA players before, sharing the court with up to 18 NBA players was a first for the former Mercury All-Area Player of the Year.

“It’s definitely cool to think about. I look up to a lot of those guys, but at the same time, if you really want to make it in the league, you’re going to have to take one of their spots,” Jaworski said. “Looking at a guy like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, yeah that was really cool because he’s a solidified NBA star, but the other fringe guys or role players, I’m comparing myself to them because I’m hoping to compete to be in their position soon.”

Jaworski finished his high school career with 1,514 points – second most in Perkiomen Valley history. He went to Lafayette — one of his two Division I offers — and totaled 1,418 points for the Leopards, finishing as the 10th leading scoring in NCAA Division I men’s basketball (21.5 points per game) as a senior in 2021.

After going undrafted, Jaworski played with the Atlanta Hawks Summer League team this summer. He played in two of the Atlanta Hawks’ five summer league games, scoring 16 points in the team’s final game.

The next step for Jaworski is the G League. The Oklahoma City Blue begin training camp in a week and a half before starting their season Nov. 5.

“It’s cool, but I understand I have a long way to go to be where I want to be,” Jaworski said. “It’s kind of a big start for me, but I’m not overly excited. I want to play myself into something more.”
