Nascimento, Dean to meet with business owners

The two candidates seeking the 4th Congressio­nal District seat in the U.S. House of Representa­tives will both hold public events today related to small business.

Christian Nascimento, the Republican seeking to unseat incumbent Democrat Madeleine Dean will be in Gilbertsvi­lle for a town hall event at the Magnolia Children’s Academy 1452 Grosser Rd., starting at 6:30 p.m.

He will meet with local small business owners to discuss “education, security, inflation” as well as “out of control spending by congress.”

Dean will be at Nutz About Popcorn, 119 S York Rd, Hatboro at 10 a.m.

She will take part in a roundtable with a group of local Black small business owners, in recognitio­n of Black Business Month, to discuss the challenges they continue to face as the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects continue to linger on all small businesses.

The five small business owners, who are all members of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, will elaborate on challenges they face as minority small business owners in an economy overwhelme­d by challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the uneven recovery. Among those challenges are inflation and supply chain problems, maintainin­g a competitiv­e workforce, access to capital, and affordable child care.

Along with Rep. Dean, the roundtable will include local Black small business owners: Lynette Smith, Nutz About Popcorn; Donahue Bailey, Atrium Internatio­nal; Cassandra Bennett, ComForCare Home Care of

Montgomery County; Obioma Martin, Omart Business Solutions; and Kym Ramsey, The Willow School.
