The Boyertown Citizen of the Year Committee is seeking nominations for outstanding Boyertown area community members for the 69th Boyertown Citizen of the Year Awards.

Mark Malizzi, who serves on the awards committee, said the purpose of these awards is “to be able to honor the people in the Boyertown area that go way above and beyond to help, support and make our community a better place to live.”

Nominations are open until Jan. 22 for outstanding people in the categories of Citizen of the Year, Mentor of the Year, First Responder of the Year and Student of the Year.

“Help us find these great people who may be doing awesome work, but working behind the scenes sometimes,” said Malizzi. “It is very important to help us find these people and find out about these great stories.”

The Committee explained, on its website, that the winners are selected out of the nominations based on the impact the person has made in their category; winners are not selected based on having the most nominations.

“The committee then chooses a person in each category that best exemplifies the support and volunteerism that is imperative to our community’s daily operation in that category. This person is someone that has gone above and beyond in their category and in our Boyertown area community and we are thrilled to honor them at our annual gala.”

The committee members are made up of past citizen of the year winners.

“If you know a great person, high school senior, first responder or mentor in the Boyertown area, please help find out about these people and their stories,” said Malizzi. “It may be their year! Help us say ‘Thank You’ and find them.”
