Norristown man jailed on child porn charge

A Norristown man faces some time behind bars, a probationary period and sexual offender registration after he admitted to possessing child pornography.

Alan Edwin Enderson, 61, of the unit block of West Chestnut Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 9 to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possessing child pornography in connection with incidents that occurred between August and November 2022.

Judge Risa Vetri Ferman, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, also ordered Enderson to complete four years of probation consecutive to parole, meaning Enderson will be under court supervision for about six years.

Enderson will be placed under sex offender supervision and must undergo a psychosexual evaluation, according to the plea agreement.

The judge said Enderson, who was represented by defense lawyer Brendan Campbell, is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors.

Additionally, Enderson faces a 15-year requirement to report his address to state police in order to comply with Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, previously known as Megan’s Law.

An investigation of Enderson began in August 2022, when county detectives received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the upload of one image depicting child sexual abuse to a Google account linked to Enderson, according to the criminal complaint filed by Montgomery County Detective Kathleen Kelly.

The image depicted a girl between the ages of 6 and 10 completely nude, her mouth covered by duct tape and in a sexual pose, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities traced the internet address to Enderson, who at the time was residing at a Norristown facility operated by New Path Recovery that teaches “the recovering addict and alcoholic how to live clean and sober while building and maintaining their support systems,” according to the criminal complaint.

Detectives subsequently obtained a warrant to search the West Chestnut Street address on Nov. 29 and seized electronic devices linked to Enderson, court papers indicate. At that time, the house manager told detectives that Enderson had left the residence and was in treatment at the Malvern Institute, according to court documents.

Detectives seized Enderson’s laptop computer from the West Chestnut Street residence and a forensic analysis uncovered one image of child sexual abuse material, according to the arrest affidavit. The internet search history on the computer also indicated Enderson searched sites for “child porn,” detectives alleged.

Court records indicate that Enderson previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of displaying obscene sexual materials in 2016 and was sentenced to five years of probation. However, that charge did not require

Enderson to register as a sexual offender “and allowed him into medical facilities where his children were being treated for medical conditions at the time,” detectives wrote in court documents.
