Montgomery County Senior Softball League selects Variety as annual charity donation recipient
Members of the Montgomery County Senior Softball League Lou Bolgosano, Vern Hunsberger, Steve Alligood, and George Schreader presented Dominique Bernardo, CEO of Variety — the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley with $5,200, representing the league’s annual charity donation for their 25th anniversary year.
“Variety is honored to be selected as this year’s recipient of the Montgomery County Senior Softball League charity donation. This group represents committed members of our community who are giving back to local organizations as part of their mission. And this group is FUN — so for anyone interested in joining, I highly recommend checking them out!”
After the check presentation, league members learned about the history of Variety, took a tour of the facility and learned about Variety’s programs for children and young adults with disabilities.
“We left the campus with a sense that this year’s choice of Variety as our designated charitable organization for 2023 was certainly one of the best choices yet in our annual drive to give back to the local communities in need. Thanks to all of our members, sponsors, and donors for their wonderful generosity,” Bolgosano said.
The Montgomery County Senior Softball League is an organization that consists of approximately 150 to 200 seniors who find much value in staying active both athletically and socially. During each season, the league hosts several events that are designed to aid in collecting donations for the charity of our choosing.
Among these events are our annual Golf Tournament, Family Picnic, One
Pitch Tournament, and most fun of all — an annual softball match — 9 9-inning doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies Ball Girls. Members have so much fun, and are so delighted by active involvement, the charity effort is the league’s way of giving a little back to our community.
Variety’s mission is to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities through social, educational and vocational programs that nurture independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life. Each year, families eagerly await coming “home” to Variety for a summer full of rich relationships and engaging activities. Variety summer camps include day camp, overnight camp, extended school year (ESY) and vocational camp. In addition, Variety’s workforce development program Variety-Works is making a difference in the lives of young adults who are receiving valuable job training and independent job placement.
