Joseph T. Kandler, age 86, husband of Patricia A. (Miller) Kandler of Pottstown, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 peacefully at home after an 18 year battle with dementia. Born on February 25, 1938 in Spring City, he was a son of the late Anna A. (Cushman) and Joseph Kandler.

Mr. Kandler was a member of the first graduating class of the Spring-Ford High School, class of 1956. He worked as a plasterer for over 45 years, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed. In addition, he was successful in the real estate business, from managing his own rental units, to rehabbing and selling properties. Along with his wife, he also owned and operated several motels, including Pirates Cove in Rehoboth Beach, DE and the Econo Lodge in Morgantown, PA.

Mr. Kandler was a lifelong, faithful member of Brownback’s United Church of Christ. Beginning in 1959, he and his family resided in the church residence, as he served as sexton and cemetery care taker for over 19 years. He also rose to positions of Deacon and Elder. Mr. Kandler was a member of the Mt. Pickering Lodge #446, F&AM.

Mr. Kandler was an avid gardener, taking pride in the presentati­on of his property. He enjoyed restoring and collecting hot rods and classic cars. He enjoyed studying and reading about history, was an avid outdoorsma­n and hunter, and also enjoyed crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with his family, and especially looked forward to the entire family traveling to Ft. Myers Beach, FL every year for 25 years.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Kandler is survived by three children, Joseph, husband of Beth Kandler, Debra, wife of Derrick Boaman, and Kristina, wife of Michael Houck; daughter-inlaw, Susan Kandler; fourteen grandchild­ren, Betsy Magann (Jeff), Jennifer Kandler, Brittany Kolb (Joshua), Allison Kandler (Andrew Croyle), Bobbi Jo Galbreath, Alexis Ford (Jarrod), Stefani Boaman, Derrick Boaman Jr. (Kelli), Evan Boaman (Mikayla), Nicole Boaman (Michael Faulkner), Austin Boaman, Taggart Houck (MaryBrooks), Kennedy Houck (Steve Lamas), and Beckett Houck; fourteen greatgrand­children; three siblings, Jane Roth (Lonnie), James Kandler, and Bruce Kandler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Kandler; and two siblings, Joanne Johnson and Donald Kandler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Brownback’s United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road, Spring City, Pennsylvan­ia on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 12:00 PM. Officiatin­g will be Rev. William Wisneski. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM at the Church on Friday morning. A Masonic Service will begin at 11:45 AM. The family has extended an invitation for all in attendance to join in the Fellowship Hall at the conclusion of the committal service for a meal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made in his name to Brownback’s United Church of Christ at the address above.
