‘Birdsong’ exhibit opens at Funky Monkey Cafe
An exhibition of bird and nature watercolors by Sharon Rowley Morgio will be on display at the Funky Monkey Café & Gallery in Cheshire from April 29 – May 31.
Although trained as an oil painter, Morgio has been working in watercolor since taking her first class in 2006, when she quickly developed a love for the transparency and fluidity of the medium. For the past several years, she has concentrated on painting birds and nature themes as amember of Elm City Artists Gallery in New Haven.
Her show at the Funky Monkey, titled Birdsong, celebrates the ephemeral yet constant presence of birds in our daily lives as symbols of hope and joy in a daunting and uncertain world.
The West Haven artist holds a BFA from Hartford Art School of the University of Hartford and has studied watercolor painting with Judy Atlas, Bob Noreika and bird artist Dorie Petrochko. She exhibits throughout Connecticut, including annual shows of the Hamden Art League, New Haven Paint & Clay Club, Connecticut Watercolor Society and the Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield.
An artist reception will be held on Friday, May 2 from 7-9 p.m. The exhibition is on view during cafe hours: Mondays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m.-10 p.m., and closed Sundays.
