• New Haven pianist Hilda
Huang, 18, won first prize in the International Leipzig Bach Competition.
• Winner of the St. Mary School, Milford, raffle of a 2014Nissan Altima was
Bob Hunter. Second prize of an Apple iPad went to
Bruce McCord; and the $250ShopRite gift card was awarded to Linda Kiley. All are Milford residents.
• More than 250children from 12towns held a food drive for soup kitchens and pantries in Branford, Madison and Clinton. All were campers at Dustin’s Place, a Christian summer camp held annually at Killam’s Point in Branford. They collected nonperishable food and placed it in hundreds of backpacks and tote bags they designed. They also included special arts and crafts items of their own design.
• Griffin Kulp of North Haven will have a principal role in the production of “The Crucible” at Dean College.
• Elizabeth Giovanniello, a high school student from Orange, was awarded the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange scholarship, which covers an academic year of study and cultural immersion in Germany. She is among 250students nationwide to receive this scholarship, and is spending the 2014-2015academic year living with a German host family and attending a local high school. She will be a U.S. “youth ambassador,” while participating in educational, cultural and political events.
