James Madison University
HARRISONBURG, VA.» James Madison University welcomed the class of 2018 to campus recently, an incoming freshman class that represents a diverse group of individuals who hail from 36 states, the District of Columbia and 35 countries around the world.
Abigail Stempel of Ivoryton plans to major in accounting.
Abigail Benchimol of Clinton plans to major in marketing.
Military training graduate
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS » Air Force Airman Macklin B. O’Connor graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
O’Connor, the son of Jay and Christopher O’Connor of East Hampton, completed an intensive, eightweek program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is a 2013 graduate of East Hampton High School, East Hampton.
Paul Smith’s College
BRIGHTON, N.Y. » The following Middlesex County students were named to the dean’s list at Paul Smith’s College during the spring semester. Each earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction.
Hunter Humble of East Haddam is majoring in natural resources management and policy.
Christopher Reynolds of Clinton is majoring in surveying technology.
Carleton College
NORTHFIELD, MINN. » Isaac Burns of the Ivoryton section of Essex received the bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, in cinema and media studies from Carleton College during its 140th commencement ceremony June 14. Burns is the son of Walker Burns and Jennifer Tate of Ivoryton.
Bentley University
WALTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS » Mark Adamiak of Middle town, son of John and Halina Adamiak, has been named to the Bentley University president’s list for the fall 2013 semester. It’s the highest distinction the college offers for academic excellence in a single semester and students must achieve a 3.7 grade point average while earning no grade below 3.0.
U.S. Achievement Academy
LEXINGTON, K.Y. » The U.S. Achievement Academy has announced Mary C. Reinsch, daughter of of Loretta Reinsch and granddaughter of Tito and Katherine Di Benedetto, all of Middletown, has been named an All-American Scholar.
The distinction is for superior students who excel in academic disciplines, such as Reinsch, who was nominated by Trevor Charles of Middletown High School. Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average.
Only those selected by a school instructor, counselor or other qualified sponsor are eligible.
She was also chosen as a student of excellence in fine arts and nominated by teacher Kimberly Everson at MHS.
She will appear in the academy’s yearbook which is published nationally.
