NEW HAVEN >> The Yale men’s hockey team returns to action Wednesday in an exhibition game against the University of Ottawa, a 7 p.m. puck drop at Ingalls Rink, which is also Youth Day.

All the Yale players and coaches will be available for autographs following the game against Ottawa.

It’s also Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary Toy Closet Night. Anyone can bring a new toy to the rink in exchange for one general admission ticket.

Yale is coming off a 15-day holiday break, having last played at

Boston University on Dec. 13, a 5-2 loss, and in the midst of a five-game nonconference string. Northeastern is in town Jan. 3 before Yale plays UConn at the XL Center on Jan. 7 and then plays host to Providence on Jan. 10.

The Bulldogs are led by senior captain John Hayden, a Greenwich resident and one of the nation’s most prolific goal scorers with 10 in 12 games. Sophomore Joe Snively (7 goals) shares the team lead with Hayden, each posting 16 points.

The primary puck distributor has been junior Ryan Hitchcock, who has 13 assists in 12 games.

Ottawa (7-7-3) is coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to Ryerson University on Dec. 3 that ended a three-game win streak. The Gee-Gees compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport league. In a September exhibition, they dropped a 3-2 decision to Binghamton of the American Hockey League.
