NEW HAVEN >> Bow Tie Cinemas in the Elm City and Hartford have joined the list of movie theaters affiliated with Atom Tickets, which has an app that soon will let movie-goers avoid the line for tickets and go straight to ushers, where they simply scan a QR code at tablet kiosks.

The partnership was announced Thursday by Atom; new users will get $5 off their first order at a Bow Tie theater with the promo code BOWTIE.

The mobile ticketing platform is sort of an Uber for movie-going, enabling not only ticket-buying through the smart phone but also offering trailers, reviews and the ability to coordinate movie outings with friends while allowing each person to pay separately, says Atom.

Bow Tie joins a list of Atom partners that includes Regal Cinemas, AMC Theatres and others. The Bow Tie Cinema locations will be Atom-enabled by the end of March, the release said.

The New York Tri-State region includes 42 Bow Tie theaters and 271 screens in that area alone. Atom says it is revolutionizing the movie ticketing industry by helping theaters fill seats and maximize revenue with its user-friendly app, which can also be used for the concession counter.

Later this year, Bow Tie says it will further elevate its guest experience with the launch of its first luxury recliner theaters, an enhanced food menu and full bar service in certain markets.

Atom Tickets is available as a free app in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store and online at atomtickets.com. Bow Tie Cinemas are also in Trumbull, Norwalk, Stamford, New Canaan, Wilton, Ridgefield and Greenwich.
