Haddam Neck Church to hold quilt show
HADDAM NECK >> The Haddam Neck Congregational Church Quilt Show will be held April 1 and 2 in the church sanctuary and historic schoolhouse, 408 Quarry Hill Road, Haddam Neck.
The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and features dozens of beautiful new and vintage quilts from local collectors and creators, raffles, a quilt shop and a tea room with home made soups, breads and desserts. Admission is $6. Applications available for Sal Salafia award
MIDDLETOWN >> The Sal Salafia Community Service Award invites students to apply for this year’s scholarship, a $1,000 award given to a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated excellence in community service.
The student must attend a secondary school in Middletown (Middletown High School, Vinal Tech, Mercy or Xavier) and have performed the service in Middletown.
Applicants must provide a detailed description of the service they performed, how their lives were affected and why it deserves recognition, in the form of an essay prepared by the student in 750 typed words.
A brief letter from the organization that benefited from the community service must also be provided as well as a letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor and signatures from the student and a parent or guardian.
Students must have maintained at least a (3.0) B average over the years and provide a transcript.
The deadline is April 15 and the award will be given June 1.

Culture commission offers grants
EAST HAMPTON >> The East Hampton Arts & Culture Commission exists to support and enhance the cultural life of the East Hampton community and will offer two grants in the amount of $500 each.
Applications are welcome from all organizations and individuals including artists, actors, musicians, singers, poets, students, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, with programs or projects that enrich the lives of East Hampton residents.
Applications are available on the East Hampton Arts & Culture Web Site www.artsforeasthamptonct.org or email arts@easthamptonct.org for a copy.
The final submission date is Monday, April 3.

In honor of the Town of East Hampton’s 250th Anniversary Celebration, the East Hampton Arts & Culture Commission will offer a $250 grant to support a project created by an organization or individual that celebrates the rich history of the town.
Artwork, a poetry, drama, dance or musical performance, gardening idea or community outreach initiative proposals will be considered.
The deadline to apply is April 3.

Military Whist set for March 30
MIDDLETOWN >> The Emblem Club will sponsor a Military Whist from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Middletown Lodge of Elks No. 771, Maynard Street, Middletown.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $7 and includes refreshments. Tickets will be sold at the door or may be reserved in advance.
Military Whist is a card game played in groups of four and requires no previous experience. Bring your own group of four or join a group forming when you arrive.
Kevin Welch, renowned Whist coordinator in the area, will lead the games, explaining how to play throughout the evening.
Round up your friends and or family and enjoy an evening of fun. Plenty of free parking is available and is handicapped accessible.
