Library to celebrate Earth Day on April 22
KILLINGWORTH >> The Killingworth Library Association is joining millions of people across the globe in celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, with an abundance of events hosted at Chatfield Hollow Farm.
The two session event, 9 a.m. – noon and 1:30-4:30 p.m. is being organized by the Killingworth Women’s Organization as a fundraiser for the Library. Chatfield Hollow Farm is located at 10 Firetower Road.
Ticket are $10 for attendees ages 5 and above, under 5 are free. Tickets include one food item for any of the participating food trucks, as well as a beverage. Additional food items will be available for purchase. Tickets are available at the library.
Activities at Chatfield Hollow Farm include mushroom inoculation and foraging, a composting station, wetlands information, a bee seminar, as well as a Tai Chi demonstration, children’s crafts, music, reading and activities with Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, s’mores, Zentangling, meditation and face painting. In addition, the Killingworth Garden Club will be selling plants and the Library will be selling environment-related books.
The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed.

Nourishing Nest: Mother and Baby Support Group: New mothers will meet on Tuesday mornings for friendship, information and support. Babies will be comforted and cared for within the group, while we talk about issues of concern and enjoy learning new things. Nourishing Nest emphasizes self-care and self-acceptance and we will create a space for relaxation and rejuvination. 56 High Street, Deep River. Fee: $25 per session. Session 1: Tuesdays in April, 11 a.m-noon. Session 2: Tuesdays in May, 11 a.m.-noon.
Little Birds: Mixed-Age Toddler Playgroup: Children ages 1-3 are invited to play, sing, dance, listen to stories and make art. Parents may enjoy coffee or tea, catch up with friends and browse our extensive Parent Resource Library. Senior Center to host trip to Pennsylvania
EAST HAMPTON >> The East Hampton Senior Center will take a trip to Pennsylvania Dutch Country on Sept. 11-13. Cost is $441 per person double/ triple, $541 per person single. A deposit of $150 due by June 19, with the final payment due July 24. No over the phone reservations, deposit or full payment due at sign up. Spend your first day exploring Peddler’s Village where there are 65 specialty shops and lunch on your own. During the evening everyone will be an Artist in an Hour, with chalk art instruction by Elva Hurst. Create your own Lancaster County Farm Scene using pastel chalk. You will be able to take home your amazing creation. Afterwards, enjoy a family-style dinner at Plain & Fancy Farm Restaurant.
On the second day, tour one of America’s earliest religious communities, Ephrata Cloister, founded by German Immigrant’s in 1732. Stop at the Amish owned Countryside Road-stand where you will find a large array of homemade crafts, quilts and bake goods. In the afternoon there are reserved seats at Sight & Sound Theatre for their production of “Jonah” a runaway Prophet from God that experiences wild adventures involving a seaport, a huge boat and a terrible storm while ending up in the belly of a HUGE fish. Dinner that evening will be at Miller’s Smorgasbord.
On the third day, the group departs from the Amish farmlands and heads to Philadelphia to visit the city’s newest attraction, One Liberty Observation Deck to experience a once-in-a-lifetime view of the City of Brotherly Love from 883 feet above.
