KENNEY, WILLIAM

William Kenney, 92 of Middletown, husband of the late Kathryn (Giza) Kenney, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Middlesex Health Care Center. He was born on November 7, 1924 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late Patrick and Margaret (Regan) Kenney. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Airforce. During his service, Bill served as a radio operator in B25 bombers with the 42nd Bomb Group, 13th Air Force in the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Air Medal for his “courageous service” successfully performing 24 missions from April 1945 to VJ Day. Prior to his retirement, William was employed by the Hartford Courant Newspaper. He was former President of the Men’s Club at St. Mary’s Church in Middletown. He was a golfer from the age of 9 and was a member of the East Hartford Golf Club, Indian Springs Golf Club, and Manchester Country Club and had eight “holes in one” during his golfing career. Surviving are sons, Richard Kenney and his wife Margaret of Loveland, CO, Patrick Kenney of Portland, CT, Jonathon Kenney of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, daughters, Janet Kenney of Middletown, CT, Nancy DeMarseilles and her husband Mark of Branford, CT and Kathleen Kenney of Bristol CT, sister, Patricia Terasaka of St. Petersburg, FL, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, William Kenny and brother, Harold Kenney. William’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Middlesex Healthcare for their wonderful care and compassion. His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday (April 24th) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Middletown. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
