Goff House concert series to begin

EAST HAMPTON » The Joseph N. Goff House is please to announce the musical line up of local Connecticu­t bands for the 2017 Goff House Gazebo Concert Series, held Thursdays evenings at 6:30 p.m. the Center School Gazebo in the East Hampton Village Center on Main and Summit Streets.

The kick-off concert on June 22 will feature members of the East Hampton High School Jazz Band, performing a variety of jazz songs from different genres. Hpyer local entertainm­ent at its finest!

June 29 will feature Jake Kulak & The Lowdown, performing modern and traditiona­l guitar-driven blues and blues-rock.

July 13 will feature The Modern Riffs, performing jazz rock and swing.

July 20 will feature Plywood Cowboy, whose heartborn songs interweave the rich heritage of earthy, country roots with the sentimenta­l poignancy of singer-songwriter traditions.

July 27 will feature Old Dog New Tricks performing a wide range of original songs and interpreta­tions of classic rock and blues songs, roots, alternativ­e, rhythm and blues.

Aug. 3, Don Giroux and the

Groove Section will perform to wrap up the series.

Listeners of all ages are welcome to attend and bring picnics and seating. Fiddling club to give free lessons at library

MIDDLETOWN » Fiddling tutorials with The Connecticu­t Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club will be held for a six-week session, July 8-Aug. 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hubbard Room, Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown. The sessions are free.

Students will learn how to play traditiona­l fiddle tunes by ear. Music CDs and sheet music will be provided. Violins will be available on loan, but if you own a violin, please bring it with you. After the final class students may participat­e in a “slow jam” musical recital.

The Connecticu­t Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club was formed in 1972 with the purpose of bringing back old time fiddling music for public enjoyment. The club has been playing fiddle music concerts throughout Connecticu­t for the past 45 years.

The purpose of this summer’s fiddle workshop is to promote, encourage, teach and prepare fiddle players wishing to learn the traditiona­l tunes, style and techniques played by CBOTFC. Its goal is to promote, maintain and preserve the traditions of old time fiddle folk music.

Flea market vendors sought

DEEP RIVER » The annual flea market will be held at the Deep River Congregati­onal Church on Saturday, Aug. 19, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The market will be held on the church lawn and on Marvin Field, located on Route 154, just as you enter Deep River from the south.

Spaces are 20 x 20 feet and are available for $30.

Vendors needed for annual craft show

COLCHESTER » Applicatio­ns are now being accepted for the 26th Annual Festival on the Green Craft Show & Muster on Saturday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s event is being sponsored by the Colchester Lions Club, which is working closely with the Colchester Historical Society, the group that founded the event. The Annual Fife and Drum Muster will also continue, coordinate­d by the Colchester Continenta­ls Fife and Drum Corps.

Last year, more than 70 craft vendors exhibited their wares on the green. Exhibitors are welcome to display a variety of arts and crafts, including woodworkin­g, painting, photograph­y, food items, pottery, jewelry, stained glass and more. All items must be personally crafted. No imports or mass-producted items are allowed.

If reserved by July 1, the fee for booth space is $75 for a 10’ by 10’ space; $140 for a double space. After July 1, the fees are $85 and $150. Rain date is Sunday, July 23.
